Vegetable barley soup tonight.

Last night, we had green chile stew. I know that roast green chiles smell like the marijuanas, but still, every time I'd walk toward the kitchen, I'd be like, "HEY!" for a second.

We are having braised short ribs, slow cooked in the crock pot with red wine, mushrooms, garlic, onions, and tomatoes. It smells divine! We're serving it over quinoa, with collard greens on the side.

liv will flagellate me for this, but...

Boxed Creamy Tomato Penne from Archer Farms (the Target brand). It was REALLY good, and I branched out from the recipe:

I cooked some chicken (s&p) in some browned butter, then cooked the sauce in the same pan, with the drippings. Then I added some garlic powder to the sauce as it thickened.

Then I added a good bit of shredded Parmesan/Reggiano/Asiago--when the sauce was still liquid (right as I tossed it), then again as it thickened and held to the pasta.

I had what I call Blackened Kitchen Cackatory (chicken cacciatore), blackened only because the old six quart crockpot has no timer or 'Warm' setting, only high or low. It's still edible and tastes, ... well ... , okay. It smelled a lot better this morning after it cooked all night on 'Low' than it does this evening. It's past it's prime, kind of like the person eating it.

Okay for all the good it does...I have made a fresh batch of Chicken Cacciatore this time in a stew pot. It smells great and I have put it in the fridge until this evening so I can warm it up for supper. (yes, I can and do actually cook when I 1) have the notion to do so, 2) run out of money or get tired of eating out.
Honest, I do like to cook finding the time to do so has been an issue this past year.
Tomorrow I think I will make chicken in a pot. (Chicken with carrots, potatoes and snap peas baked to perfection.) Then Sunday I think I will do something with hamburger.

Vegetable barley soup with a bit of ham. This is probably considered junk food since: the vegetables were the frozen variety pack (think cubed carrot bits); the barley was the quick barley in a box; and I used one of those breakfast ham slices that are good cubed up and put in bean soup. Add water and vegetable stock, pretty much soup in a half hour.

Köfte with dal and basmati rice. I made the köfte with köfte spices from the Kurdish market and ground meat and I threw in tomato paste, lime juice and harissa (Tunisian pepper sauce) for the sauce. Dal I made with yellow lentils, onion, garlic, tomatoes, and garam masala. It was yummeh, :belch: only I keep forgetting how strong the bleeping harissa is :sweaty:

I'm having a six or seven day old GF grilled lemon-pepper chicken breast with pepper-jack cheese melted on top in hopes it will impart at least a tiny amount of moisture into the dessicated resemblance of cooked fowl muscle tissue. Then, if not thoroughly sated by that, I have a can of tuna I can eat.
