Christmas cheer
Feels like it's started. Friday evening before Christmas.
Plenty to do, but none of it is work.
So bring yer cheer or yer curmudgeonliness. Ho ho ho clang clang and all that.

Re: Christmas cheer
It's not one of the scorching hot days of late December down here in the other hemisphere, but still nice enough to chill outside with a pipe of the ol' wacky baccy.

Re: Christmas cheer
What a coincidence. It's not a scorching hot day of late December here at 60.19 degrees north latitude either.

Re: Christmas cheer
Sorry, I guess it was just too early for me to have that pop out at me. Merry Christmas anyway.

Re: Christmas cheer
Greetings from the Christmas Eve hangover time zone.
Got to get the final grocery shopping in. Damn.
After that, making potato salad. Then baking gingerbread for a house. Never done that before, I'm anticipating structural unsoundness. Figure I can call it an earthquake tribute.
And the traditional raising of the tree to see if the younger cat will actually leave it alone, then not decorating it because of course she won't.

Re: Christmas cheer
We just a fantastic tea of nibbles, but there is 6 people and 2 large dogs in our modest house. It's a bit of a madhouse right now.
The German Shepherd is only 7 months old and is FULL of beans, ripping around all over the place. She's pretty big to be bouncing off the walls and harassing our 8 year old greyhound.
It's nice to have everyone here, but it's nice when they all leave too

Re: Christmas cheer
We are watching Christmas films having stuffed ourselves with turkey, roast potatoes, sprouts, perunalaatikko, lanttulaatikko and porkkanalaatikko. And dates and chocolates.

Re: Christmas cheer
We are hanging around the house. Snow from the recent storms has been rearranged, the daughter is prepping for tomorrow's dinner while whistling - properly out of tune - along with all the Xmas songs coming out of the radio.
And I am standing by, waiting to make that last minute grocery run before the store closes.
Once past that, I will be playing STWOR and AoE with the grandkids.

Re: Christmas cheer
My Christmas Friday began with the furnace going flakey as the temperature dropped from freezing to below zero Fahrenheit. It wasn't heating well and then would just quit. Depowering and turning it back on would start it back until at some point it quit again. Net result throughout the day was a cool house. Overnight, electric heaters kept the place livable but cold. It did better today and then the repairman arrived. He didn't find much wrong except for some corrosion on a valve which he cleaned. It seems to be working fine now. Hopefully tonight I won't be so cold.
The furnace issue canceled the travel plans to the parents' house though given how foul the weather was yesterday, below freezing, drifting snow, high winds, it probably wasn't safe to head down the mountain anyway.

Re: Christmas cheer
Spent the evening at my Mom's with one of my sisters last night (Christmas Eve) eating hand-pulled noodles and dumplings and far too many cookies, and watching "It's a Wonderful Life". We watched "A Christmas Carol" starring George C. Scott the night before. I'm not sure what we'll watch today, but probably something. My other unwed sister who usually celebrates with us is stuck in California because of cancelled flights.

Re: Christmas cheer
We're going to have a pork tenderloin with scalloped potatoes. I've been eating cookies all day, so a that sounds perfect for dinner. I don't have all the ingredients I need for cheesecake, so that has to wait till tomorrow.

Re: Christmas cheer
Ruthie loved the first present she got this morning so much that it took us a while to convince her to leave it long enough to open the rest. She likes the others, too, but the pink unicorn is her favorite.
Then, Mabel came over and helped me make stuffed manicotti and meatballs, plus I invented shitgoblin cake, which is a devil's food cake with marmalade filling and a completely ruined and broken up buttercream frosting (because it wasn't warm enough inside for the butter to get soft). And everyone ate too much and got tired.
