Re: Trivial things that annoy you
I had wifi on an East Coast train on one journey. It was variable to say the least, but the absolutely consistent thing was Google Maps which was convinced we were still in King's Cross station the entire time. Because, wifi locating etc.
Thank you for trying to make me feel better. You know what would have made me feel better? Having someone with guest access to a business lounge with free wifi (and free coffee and free beer and free snacks). You know how I know that?

Re: Trivial things that annoy you
Hey, so you know that Matlock guy?
Know what he does?
That Matlock guy buys empty bottles of mustard just to mess with me is what that guy does.
We always have two different mustard bottles--yellow and brown--in the refrigerator, and they are always both empty. Today, I found one of those stupid little Chinese hot mustard packets and put that on my sandwich. It was pretty stupid.
Then, in a rage, I threw the fake mustard bottles away, so if any of you see Matlock around, tell him that he needs to buy some more empty mustard bottles.

Re: Trivial things that annoy you
As a suspicious coincidence, my Sriracha bottle went completely missing from our fridge.
I'm not saying Matlock had anything to do with it. I just wish he would put these rumors to rest once and for all. I'm just asking questions.

The evidence does seem damning. The longer this goes without him responding to these accusations answering these important questions the worse it looks for him.

Re: Trivial things that annoy you
Someone literally dies every time someone leaves and empty mustard container in the fridge, literally, like in dead, suffocated by an empty mustard container. Okay, I mean figuratively, but in my mind I'm smothering them with my very real hands. And they're not even aware of it.

Re: Trivial things that annoy you
Scalloped corn. It is not that I don't like scalloped corn. I like it just fine. What I don't like is the name. Scalloped potatoes are called that because the potatoes are cut into round, scallop shaped, pieces. Veal scallopini is made from veal cutlets, i.e. scallop shaped pieces. Scalloped corn is not cut into round, scallop shaped pieces. That could only be accomplished by slicing the ear of corn so as to include the cob in the center of the slice. That would not be nice.
Somewhere along the way some fool decided that since scalloped potatoes are cooked in a milk or cream sauce if something else was cooked in similar sauce it also should be referred to as being 'scalloped'. This is just plain wrong! What would these scalloped corn people think if I started calling chipped beef gravy "scalloped beef"? I will tell you what they would think. They would think that I was stupid. Well I think they are stupid and I don't care who knows it!!!!

Re: Trivial things that annoy you
It could indeed be a uniquely Iowa thing. I don't recall that I ever heard of scalloped corn before we moved to Iowa.
ETA: Apparently not just an Iowa thing, unless Betty Crocker is from Iowa.

Corn flakes....? I guess they're kind of "scalloped" if you have a vivid imagination. But they needed no chef intervention to become so.
That recipe looks like something people use to lie to themselves about eating healthy. It's got three* entire* vegetables.
* For sufficiently large values of two
* Not entire

Re: Trivial things that annoy you
The Online Etymology Dictionary has an entry for scallop (n.) but mentions that:

So (providing that the Iowans are using the correct shaped pans ) they are correct and the term has been used for over two hundred and seventy years.

Another trivial thing that annoys is me is people who make comments that are not to the point. It doesn't bother me when I do it, just when other people do it.

Why do you think I do it, if not to annoy you.
PS, I usually only try to annoy people I like.
