Re: Ingress
Yup. Now you get a "re-do" button on the glyph page. So if you mess up you can re-try.
hairpin, bump, cinnamon roll... eff it

Re: Ingress
I just started playing. I don't really know what I'm doing yet. I went out for a walk to four unclaimed portals nearby, claimed them and linked them up. But they only show on the map as lines - perhaps I need to revisit the first one again to make a field?
Anyway, that's got me up to level 2. I suppose I'll learn more over the next few outings.

Re: Ingress
You have to link three together to make a field, only a triangle will make a field. So if you have them in a square then link two of the corners together to make two fields.
I may or may not have playing time in London this coming Friday, depending on JoeP's schedule. Not sure whereabouts you are, though...

Re: Ingress
I'm over 100 miles northwest of London. I tossed a coin to choose green but it seems good as there is more blue than green near here. There were plenty of neutral portals within easy walking range of home: I've nabbed and linked five so far (but no fields yet); I plan to get another three tomorrow if they're still available - and if the opposition haven't taken the ones I got today I should be able to make some fields.

Re: Ingress
As long as you don't get attached to portals and get disheartened when the opposing team take them, it is probably actually better to be in the minority. I don't seem to have any active blue players in my home town at all any more, so us 3-4 ENL players just have to let our portals decay so we can get something to do, or wait for occasional blue raiding parties from elsewhere to leave a "mess" for us to clean up.
In bigger cities portal turnaround is fast, but there will generally be some grey ones around from nearby bombing, handy for players who don't have enough levelling yet themselves to use effective bombs, and capturing and linking them is a quick way to gain points. Also, one can get loads of points just from linking other players' portals.
In smaller towns that have other active players points can be harder to come by.

Re: Ingress
I captured a few more vacant portals and linked them with lines. I revisited my portals from yesterday and somehow made a couple of fields. I still don't really understand the process, but I'm up to level 3 now. Those blue portals on the map only have one resonator each, but those are marked level 6. I tried attacking one but just used up all my ammo with no effect.
My feet are sore now, so further ingressing will have to wait till they feel better.

Re: Ingress
Any triangle will make a field basically, that is about it.
If the portal has no shields, you can still take out one of the level 6 resonators with your level 3 bursters. You need to stand right on top of the resonator to do the most damage possible.
Also, did you know that if you hold down the fire button you can get up to 20% more power?
And are you Glyph hacking? (holding down the hack button until a little game comes up where you trace out glyphs)
And finally, the further you are away from the portal (but inside your 40m circle still) the further away from the portal will be the resonators you place. That makes it harder to destroy them later since they are more spread out.
Just a few things I didn't know about when I started and took varying amounts of time to realise/learn

Re: Ingress
I found out about entering the 'more' or 'less' glyphs when glyph-hacking.
More (which looks like ^ but flatter - with the apex on the centre point) requests that you want another key, even when there is already one or more in your inventory.
Less (which is an upside-down more (like V but flatter) requests that you don't want a key. I don't understand why you wouldn't want another key but maybe it's useful for advanced players?
You enter the glyph when the app says 'command channel open' before it displays the normal glyphs that you have to enter.
Doing it this way means that you don't have to drop your existing key(s) for a portal (where it/they might get stolen) nor transfer it/them to a capsule, which is time consuming especially when you have a slow data connection.
This feature of the app was introduced in an upgrade a couple of months ago, apparently.
I'm up to 110,000 AP now, so I might hit level 5 this weekend.

Not wanting a bunch of keys to recycle while farming, mostly
I hit cap. Although a bunch of keys = a mini-power cube for recharging stuff

That, but it doesn't really work good cuz here's why. Am I doing it wrong?
In our experimenting with this feature we think we figured out that if you request more (or fewer) keys in the command channel, but then bypass the glyph, then it ignores your key request.
This doesn't help me get "more" keys, because when I need it most is when I am in too much of a hurry to put a key away in a capsule before hacking, like when I'm riding in the shuttle and trying to build and field en route (by volume, this is the majority of my playing).
It doesn't help me get "fewer" keys, because if I'm farming, I'm either microfarming and glypyhing a handful of portals, in which case I don't get all that many unique keys, or I'm simple-hacking 100+ portals on the move and don't have the time.
My point is, I wish the key commands worked with simple/non-glyph hacking. If I have time to glyph, I have time to fuck around with keys and don't need that shit.

Hehe. I bet. I talked to D0gboy. Did Bluefish flip?
I have drama with a local teammate that isn't getting enough attention and keeps on saying she'll flip, giving out information on the team and posting stuff in all the wrong channels.

Re: Ingress
Oh I like the key command for farming large quantity of keys. We multi-hacked heat sinked and fracked 50 keys to a portal a couple of weeks ago, it was a limited access portal, so we had a short time to do it in. It was pretty brilliant then.
60 seconds is enough time to put keys in a capsule, but man fracking for key farming whoo!

Re: Ingress
So my fairly small fields in and around Studley were wiped out in the wee small hours so as to make way for one corner of this yuge five-layer field.
Yay! Go green!
But the player(s) that did it were apparently working in cohorts with a smurf who drove around to several of my portals and zapped them just in time to make way for this project.
Is that considered ethical? Isn't there an easy way for a faction to destroy some of its own links when they're in the way of a bigger project? I know you can flip a portal with a virus, but they didn't do it that way here - I suppose it wasn't worth using up rare viruses on my low-grade portals.
Edit: Apparently I was wrong. The guy who made the fields ADA'd my portals for the cause! I could have sworn the messages I got said that my portals were attacked by a different guy to the one who made the 5-layer - but I was half asleep and mixing up those portals with some others of mine that were, incidentally, attacked about the same time. Anyway, my question is now hypothetical, but still stands: is it acceptable to work with the other faction, or maintain a separate account of the opposing faction, to help with knocking out friendly portals?

Re: Ingress
I think working with the other team is supposed to forbidden, or at least frowned upon. And certainly in some areas it seems like the two teams hate each other so much, working with the other team wouldn't be possible or would get you shunned by your own team.
Thankfully, I've never experienced anything like that and the people around here all very nice. I have worked with the smurfs before to create L8 portals, since there are not enough people in our area to get L8's normally. 3 smurfs could make a 7, then they would jarvis it, I would add an 8 and then after farming them I'd ADA them and they would add their 8's again. Then whenever I was up that way, I would jarvis them and farm them again.

Re: Ingress
It's not acceptable (and is against TOS) to maintain two accounts at the same time of any color. Using a Jarvis or and ADA is the way to get around flipping portals, in my area we always clear it with the person who owns (not has resos on, but owns) the portal to make sure we don't wipe out someone's guardian. Good guardian portals also make great anchors. Working with the other team, is more grey. If it's field art, it's done all the time. If it's for mu for one side or another, well helping the other team score big? Why not just join the other team?

Re: Ingress
Hanging out drinking with the other team and making an 8 by flipping portals around is OK, but depending on community relations, could still make for an uncomfortable explanation in the future.

Re: Ingress
If you long-press on a portal in range it now gives you the option of hacking with no key without having to glyph, but have yet to find a more-keys quick hack.
There is spme cross-faction stuff that has people working together to make decorative fields and such, but I haven't seen much. The First Saturay events are a chance to meet up and get to know some, though.

Hooray! My ingress drama is leaking into ! I don't trust most of what d0gboy says. He talks way too authoritatively about shit that he has no idea about. Bluefish flipped blue to green several months ago. NevrGiveUp recently flipped green to blue, so I really don't give a shit about her, not that I ever did.
Oh! But first Saturday was totally awesome, and there was zero drama as far as I am aware. Our friends were really happy to see Grady out in his wheelchair, and we were both happy to be out playing. Then a bunch of us went to our friend's house for food, and we begged a bunch of gear off our friends because we haven't farmed.

Re: Ingress
Nice! FS can be totally drama free because people who are all on-line drama llamas can't bear the scrutiny of actually facing the people they are dogging (dogboying?) on.
Dogboy does well in regional stuff, Seattle man. Those guys are sharp. All of San Francisco talent and the Portland/small town relaxed let's have fun and do this thing vibe. They blue and green teams don't put up with any crap.
