This is amusing as I know exactly what he means, a friends parent in high school would call computers from the devil right up till her son got better grades using one then boom computers were amazing. So many people are up their own asses and can’t understand carring about others if it doesnt benefit them. I have some hypothesis as to why they ended up that way and only care about themselves.
Maybe one of the many think pieces will finally figure out some people are just angry self centered hatefilled assholes who think they better take advantage of you before you enevitably take advantage of them. God it must suck to live in that world.
I think some of that type of behavior may have been more adaptive when we lived in small groups. Obviously, you couldn't be that much of an asshole to other people in the village because you'd be shunned, but if you viewed people from neighboring villages/tribes/etc. that way, it wasn't necessarily a problem. It might have even been beneficial for the village to have some people like that (not necessarily only people like that, as you don't want the neighboring people teaming up against you because you're such assholes).
The thing is, we don't live in small groups anymore and barring some catastrophe (which isn't out of the question with climate change and nukes and antibiotic resistant diseases, etc.) we won't in the future either. But this type of personality seems easy to exploit in politics. If she lived in a little village in the pre-contact Amazon, her selfish behavior couldn't be mobilized as part of a mass politics that didn't actually benefit people like her, because there were no masses. Because small group dynamic intuitions don't always apply at a society level*, they're exploitable by con artists serving propaganda to make her feel that her selfish/in-group interests are served by dumb bullshit that actually benefits the wealthy at her expense.
*See: Trump, Donald J. who if he were some random shmoe stuck in little Magatown, USA, would be shunned as the asshole he is.
Oh oh oh! I read Ari's post before dinner and ruminated a reply but most of the points have been addressed and I'm on my phone so:
Cycles of abuse. I don't mean narcissists and psychopaths, I mean a patriarchal cycle of father knows best, spare the rod and spoil the child.
There's a generational, and in the USA it's rooted in the puritanical, consensus that "crime" must meet punishment. What I see is a justice system and sense of justice so twisted by this, that restitution, rehabilitation, and reintegration are less important than revenge and erasure.
Since it's woven into the culture, enough people rely on abusive cycles for their identity and/or their power. And in the anglosphere in general, there's currently enough people who just won't put up with the shit anymore, which is deeply threatening to an abuser's identity and power.

As usual, he accused his opponents of something he himself did. It is always, always, ALWAYS projection with these motherfuckers. You could probably build a passable Republican by training an AI to follow the following rules:
IGMFY (I Got Mine; Fuck You).
Cleek's Law (Today's 'conservatism' is the opposite of what liberals want today, updated daily).
It's Always Projection.
The Object of Power Is Power.
I think it would probably fool other Republicans, but it might not pass a Turing test, because I don't think the Republicans would pass a Turing test either. (Or a Voight-Kampff test. There are eight letters that appear in both "Replicant" and "Republican". Coincidence? It is irresponsible not to speculate.)
This post came to mind too, regarding "do unto you before you can do unto me".

Once again Falwell Junior opens his pie hole and it goes straight to hell.
Who are you @drmoore ? Have you ever made a payroll? Have you ever built an organization of any type from scratch? What gives you authority to speak on any issue? I’m being serious. You’re nothing but an employee- a bureaucrat.
Russell Moore is president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the moral and public policy agency of the nation’s largest Protestant denomination. Dr. Moore is the author of several books, including Onward: Engaging the Culture without Losing the Gospel and The Storm-Tossed Family: How the Cross Reshapes the Home. A native Mississippian, he and his wife Maria are the parents of five sons.
Sounds like the Southern Baptist Convention gave him authority to speak on ethical subjects.
Once again Falwell Junior opens his pie hole and it goes straight to hell.
Moralizing racist hypocritical evangelical shithole who is only famous because he inherited an organization from his moralizing racist hypocritical evangelical shithole father has thoughts on whether people who haven't built an organization from scratch can opine on the issues of the day.
But to be fair, he did help build a business for his pool boy to run, for some reason. Nothing to do with any naked pictures, I can assure you.
Also, I'd venture that insulting someone as "nothing but an employee" wouldn't influence whether the media would describe that person as a "populist".
Surfing for "Trump is God's gift" articles, I just found this. It's over a year old and I think we may have covered the gorund (even this very piece) before, but in case we haven't ... It's a piece about why there is no cognitive dissonance between Trump's utter ungodliness and his Evangelical base.
Pocahontas TM 43ppl issues: Pres Trump Kavanaugh confirmation small refinery waivers tariffs USMCA rural health care electoral college min wage drug prices shld b on tv ads big tech Medicare climate change robocalls ethanol/e15 yr round #99CountyMeeetings
So to translate from garbled old GOP asshat, I think:
Quote:
Pocahontas TM (township meeting, maybe?)
43 people in attendance
Issues:
Pres Trump
Kavanaugh confirmation
small refinery waivers
tariffs
USMCA
rural health care
electoral college
min wage
drug prices should be included in TV ads
big tech
Medicare
climate change
robocalls
ethanol/e15 yr round
#99CountyMeetings
I assume the idea is that he will go to county meetings in each of the 99 counties in Iowa.
So, to defend Chuck Grassley, who is a piece of shit, what he said wasn't dumb*. Given the horrible tweet formatting, though, how he said it was indeed quite stupid.
*I'm sure what he had to say at the meeting about many, most or even all of those subjects was stupid though.
Definitely the worst cover of "Subterranean Homesick Blues" I've ever heard.

“All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.” -Adam Smith
“Beating up a journalist because he criticizes your political ideology is what the Nazy Party did in germany. Now it is happening in Portland, OR. Good to remember that Nazi = National Socialism. Not far right but far left. True liberalism opposes both.” - Michael Shermer.
That’s right, Shermer is so fucking stupid and non skeptical that he just Godwinned all over the place and took that Nazi has ‘socialism’ in it as proof that modern socialism is bad and socialists are dangerous violent people.
Sure Shermer says he’s a Libertarian but since we all know libertarians are just conservatives who like drugs it’s going here. And sure he’s also proven himself a psuedo-intelectual plenty of times before but this is just funny.
Shermer loves to claim himself a skeptic and a scientist which only adds evidence to my view that if someone calls themselves something at every turn till being a ____ merges with their public persona, then they’re almost certainly a scam artist using a well know technique to provide false authority to their statements. If only the world were more like skeptics they wouldn’t fall for shit like this... oh wait.
As expected Shermer has since deleted the tweet and gone on a mansplain of how everyone took it wrong that even though he literally said Nazis are far left, he didn’t mean they were really far left, just that socialism is bad em kay, and...
I assume what he’s trying to say is “Careful you could become the thing you despise!” Only he cocked it up so bad, a ton of his emotional baggage and biases just fell out instead.
Piers Morgan is who I think of whenever MRA’s say ‘Beta cuck.’ He’s just so enamored with the whole masculine, alpha manly man idea but is ultimately a pathetic weenie and he basically knows it. It’s why he has such a hit and run style, he knows he can’t defend himself. I think ‘Beta Cuck’ over just plain douche because it’s obvious over the years his main goal is not to be right or even an alpha, it’s to get alpha dudes to notice him, maybe pat him on the head and take him under their wing as an honorary alpha, or just Beta allowed to be in the same room as them.
Finally a GOP rep speaks up about the tweets and boy does it suck. Basically: I am embarrassed by Trump's unsubtle racism, but I nonetheless support his nativist policies and would also like to smear those fellow legislators as unwilling to defend America. https://t.co/F07UnvCRez

Whoops. The "send her back" chant that Trump is claiming to disavow was *planned at the rally and *rehearsed *with the *crowd by *warm-up *act Lara Trump.
