Danica Patrick
Why do so many people hate Danica Patrick? Anytime something shows up on the internet about her, the comments are full of hostility and venom.

I can't answer for the whole Internet of course, but for me personally it has to do with the amount of media hype relative to her actual race results.
She has an unremarkable racing record and tits, and only one of those things is causing the media hysteria.
BTW, I don't hate her, I'm just not a fan.

Re: Danica Patrick
Add in the whole "spokesperson for GoDaddy" when she was in all their commercials and it becomes oversaturation.

Re: Danica Patrick
Danica Patrick can drive, she won the pole position for the Daytona 500, a first for a female NASCAR driver. No joke, it's not a stipper pole, but the inside front row position.
How often does the pole starter win Daytona? 30% of the time.

She can turn a fast lap. Doesn't mean she can race.
Even if she's an okay race car driver, I stand by my earlier comment that her media coverage outweighs her potential as a driver.
I imagine a lot of the Internet vitriol has to due with either (1) the perception that she's in a "man's sport", or (2) resentment/jealousy at her sexying up the sport.

Do the comments hold any clues? Do they say "I hate her because...." or just "Hate her!"

She is not an elite driver, but "unremarkable" seems a stretch for the co-holder of the record for IndyCar rookie pole positions and someone who has now twice had top-five starts -- pole position this year -- at the Indy 500. Certainly she is commercially capitalizing on the sexual objectification of her by -- I submit -- the same demographic that will then whinge about the hype; and I agree that the sex-commodification hype exceeds the level of racing accomplishment.

She has good record of finishing races in her starting position or higher. Which strongly suggests that she is actually as good at racing as she is at turning a fast lap by herself.

Re: Danica Patrick
I think Waluigi is close to it, here is the Fox Sports article and the comments follow at the bottom. Most who are negative are not saying they "Hate" her, but the resentment is clear in the post. People are saying that she is not a good driver, or that everything has been handed to her somehow. Just the general tone of about half of those who are leaving comments.

Re: Danica Patrick
Yes, butthurt about being given special consideration is kinda expected when a woman enters a "man's" world in some way.
I don't think they handed her the pole though

Re: Danica Patrick
FWIW, a couple of years ago, I knew a woman who worked for one of the racing teams (don't recall which one, as I'm not a racing fan). According to her, there's a bit of resentment for Patrick within the industry as well. Apparently, there are other women drivers who are, according to her, anyway, better at what they do, but don't get the same opportunities because they don't aggressively market the "sexy lady in a racecar" angle. How much of that is true and how much of that is bias against a driver from another team, I couldn't say.

Re: Danica Patrick
"Make hay while the Sun shines." When I was teaching the principal had a real stick up his ass for anyone who used their appearance to make money rather than their brains. If someone has brains they can use it to earn a living, if someone is sexy or good looking they can use that to earn a living as well. Danica Patrick has the oportunity to use whatever she has to earn some money, she can drive a race car and she is attractive, so 'good for her'. Any time one person is sucessful at something, other people are going to be jealous and complain, what they fail to take into account is that they probably aren't that good, or attractive, too bad. And I'm not talking about the other teams or drivers, anyone driving a car like that on one of those speedways has to be a good driver just to be there, I'm refering to the noisy fans who would wet their pants at anything over 85 MPH.
