I can hardly wait.

Although
Quote:
Scientists predict that a pair of stars in the constellation Cygnus will collide in 2022, give or take a year, creating an explosion in the night sky so bright that it will be visible to the naked eye.

If it happens, it would be the first time such an event was predicted by scientists.
Wait, it has been predicted. Is this just sloppy writing for "correctly predicted"? Has such an event been incorrectly predicted before?

Obviously it will be supercool (and in fact ultrahot) if it happens, but mostly what the articles (this one and its source) talk about is how a few (plucky) astronomers (astronomy prof and students) are predicting something may happen.

Science isn't clean and scientists don't all agree. Who knew?

And

Flipping A Switch In The Brain Creates Killer Mice : Shots - Health News : NPR
NPRThe mice became aggressive predators when two sets of neurons in the amygdala were activated with laser light, a team reported Thursday in the journal Cell.

"The animals become very efficient in hunting," says Ivan de Araujo, an associate professor of psychiatry at Yale University and an associate fellow at The John B. Pierce Laboratory in New Haven. "They pursue the prey [a live cricket] faster and they are more capable of capturing and killing it."

Activating the neurons even caused the mice to attack inanimate objects, including sticks, bottle caps and an insectlike toy. "The animals intensively bite the toy and use their forepaws in an attempt to kill it," De Araujo says.

But the aggressive behavior is reserved for prey. Mice didn't attack each other, even when both sets of neurons were activated.

If you ignore the click bait title, this is actually quite fascinating. That the stalking nd killing behaviors are located in slightly different networks of the brain could help shed light on things like domestication processes and how animals see other animals. This also supports the idea there is a hunting instinct in the first place.

Presumably the military already know this and use it on humans.

A small step towards artificial life (as usual rather overblown by typical science reporting) and another application of the fascinating CRISPR technology. Pretty cool.

And this is also pretty interesting: "time crystals". Materials that have the repetitive pattern of a crystal, but are not in equilibrium, and repeat themselves in 4 dimensions. I wish I had more than a vague inkling of what that meant! Physics boffins, rescue me!

I'm not convinced what they describe really fits the term "crystals" - it sounds like what they've made is driven by laser pulses and surprisingly resonates at a different frequency. If it was a stable oscillating system without external control that would be more of a time crystal.

Global warming found ... they literally made up the data!!

These frauds must be on pins and needles with every passing year of their predictions proving false, and their conclusions proving fraudulent.

As Jerome knows the best data comes from personal blogs of people who troll others under a fake name.
I hear wordpress has great peer review.

Oh look how fitting, peer reviewed PHD scientist Steven Goddard also just happens to be a Trump supporter who spouts right wing talking points.

From where exactly?
They included yellow squares?

It's totally classic conspiracy theory nutjobbery when it's assumed they would publish the 'real' data but only for those who look hard enough.

Why did you present a blended map?

Is that because showing the map with the data shows the fraud?

Crumb, I noticed you gave him a thanks.

You should have checked the source of his map, it is after they jiggered with the data, that is the point.

Your map is made-up, that is the point. Its not data, that is the point.

They had to make-up data that does not exist to show warming.
