I was one of hundreds of people taken captive by terrorists freedom fighters. Took me all of three minutes to develop Stockholm syndrome.

Default Re: Weird Dream(s)

I had two related dreams about Mount Everest last night: in the first dream time was warped in a ludicrous way - but in the dream that seemed quite natural. In the sequel dream there was a warping of people, with two people combined into one dream character.

1. I was one member of a large team building some sort of structure atop the edge of a high vertical cliff. At the end of the shift all us workers raced on foot down a very steep slope to the village at the bottom. I worked out that the fastest runner was 'running' (it was more like a controlled fall) at an average speed of nearly 60mph. I asked what the record speed was, and was told by one worker that he'd been there to witness the record descent done by Captain somebody using a sort of mini-glider.

And then I was one of several passengers (strangers) in some sort of flying contraption that was flying alongside the captain in his record descent from the summit of Everest. His glider, which had short stubby wings, pushed off from the top, and slid a long way down a steep slope gathering speed before becoming airborne. It dived down at near-supersonic speed to near the ground, where the captain jettisoned the glider and started to build a sort of basket-weave 'parachute' from long hollow aluminium tubes. He was now flying, still at great speed, low above a sort of Wile-E-Coyote landscape, and as his speed decayed he kept adding additional tubes to his 'parachute' so that it created additional drag. I explained to a fellow passenger in the observation craft that he would surely also jettison the aluminium chute contraption and use a regular parachute for his landing, but I was wrong and he landed heavily but safely using the aluminium tube contraption alone.

I was at the landing site congratulating the captain on his achievement, but although I'd just witnessed it, the event had actually happened several years earlier. There was a commemorative statue on the site of the captain, complete with his 'parachute', but the aluminium tubes were arranged in completely the wrong shape - looking more like a tree than the actual shape the captain had built. I asked the captain about this and he said he knew that the sculptor had got it wrong, but that he (the captain) hadn't corrected the sculptor as he was hoping to make money from his parachute design and didn't want his commercial competitors to have too much information about how it actually worked.

2. I was at work and my friend, Bob, turned up and said he'd like to fly with me in a hot air balloon to the summit of Everest. I'd piloted a balloon to the summit once before with one (unnamed) companion, though that had also been my first ever balloon flight. Bob told me he'd drive us to the launch site in his car: conveniently, the launch site and the balloon were only about thirty miles away.

For some reason, I invited two work colleagues to come along - an older guy, Graham, who I didn't really get along with, and a younger guy, Tim, who hated Graham. Tim was grumbling about why I'd asked Graham, but I explained that Graham was also Edmund Hillary, and that Tim would be able to brag how he'd flown in a balloon to the top of Everest alongside one of the first people ever to stand on top of it.

Then I realized I'd forgotten to ask Bob if it was okay for two additional passengers to tag along, and we had to remove some child seats and other clutter from the back of his car to make room for them. I also spent some time worrying about what I should take along with me so as not to overload the balloon and I decided I could leave my car keys behind at work, seeing as we were going in Bob's car.

During the drive to the launch site, I decided to let Graham/Hillary be in charge of the balloon, even though he'd never been in one before.

As we launched the balloon, I worried that we couldn't steer it, so how would we get to the summit and what would we do if we missed? But then I realized that it was 'obvious' that in calm conditions the airflow around the mountain would naturally suck the balloon towards the summit, and that was how I'd managed to pilot it there previously.

And then we were safely sat in the balloon basket, on the summit, admiring the views.

I forget almost everything that happened in it, but we lived in a big old hotel with manual elevators and a giant swim-in aquarium in the lobby that was attached to some waterway. The only event I remember is that the doorman called on the weird old-school videophone to tell us that this one particular manatee was there if we wanted to come down and say hi.

Wait a minute, what? Its name was George. Is that a name of a famous manatee that I had buried in my subconscious somewhere?

What the fuck? How did you know that?

If there's a famous manatee named George, it was buried in my subconscious as well. I just meant it as a joke - seriously.

I had a dream last night that a bunch of witches were praying airplanes out of the sky. They specifically were after 747s.

And I watched the worst Scooby-Doo episode last night where that, but with ghosts and not a 747, happened.

It's like someone took all the TV shows and YouTubes I've been watching this weekend and put them in a blender.

I was in a version of the universe which had a grimy, tentacly parallel world like in Stranger Things. I was able to move freely between the worlds, even though most people couldn't perceive it.

My own ability to perceive it was apparently new, because where I had expected to see a bank of cubbies and a wall, suddenly the wall was gone and the bank of cubbies was twice as wide as it was before. There were the normal cubbies, and then mirrored across the plane where the wall used to be (so more of a lateral mirror universe than an Upside Down) was a collection of gross, dirty cubbies made of milk crates, like the one on the League.

I retrieved a package out one of the dirty cubbies, which had been left there for me by Chidi from The Good Place. This a safe and convenient way for us to pass things between the two worlds, because most people couldn't access them.

I took the package into the (normal, non-mirror) bathroom and opened it up, and out came a creature, part robot, part organic. Like it had the tank-style wheels of Johnny Five or Wall-E, but it's head area had just an insect's probiscus with a tiny, narrow tongue which came out and sniffed around for a bit and then quit moving, very obviously dead.

It died because it was made of antimatter, as all things in the mirror universe were, and it couldn't survive in a regular matter environment. Apparently there was no problem with handling antimatter in our world, you just couldn't have living things cuz they need antimatter air and food to live. It made me really sad to see it die.

There was more stuff where I was trying to track down a cassette tape on which was recorded some info that I needed, but there were a bunch of identical tapes and I had to try to play them in these 2 tape decks to narrow down my search. But the matter tapes would only play in the matter tape deck, and the antimatter tapes would only play in the antimatter tape deck, and I couldn't tell which was which except for trying to play them, but if I got it wrong it would destroy the tape.
