Home remedy: waterboarding

I have had one billion sinus infections with associated head pain, but Sunday I woke up wondering who had punched me in the face. My cheekbone was killing me, and it was very localized. Nothing I had ever felt before. Yesterday my eye was swelling and my teeth were getting shooting pains. Horrible! So I found out sinuses can be all blocked up due to cold or allergies without being infected, and thought about buying a saline nose spray, but didn't think a wimpy spray would do much.

So I made up some salt water with a little soda (recipe I found on a medical site) got one of Kiddos med dispenser syringe things, hung upside down and squirted it into my nose and sinuses.

I laid there gagging and having a sinus filled with saline as long as I could then sat up and blew about 4 pounds of snot out of my nose. Instant relief and in a few hours totally pain free.

Highly recommended home remedy.

The feeling of the water filling your sinuses is so uncomfortable it's almost not worth it...but I was kinda desperate.

How do you squirt it into your sinuses specifically? Does anything you squirt up your nose end up in the sinus cavities?

I'm glad it worked for you and I hope to hell I never have cause to test it.

I didn't have a syringe, I just cupped my hands together under running water and inhaled hard through my nose. (Make sure you do this over a sink, BTW)

You don't squirt it hard, you just kinda fill your nose...with your head back yeah it fills the sinus automatically.

The website I found said you could huff it, as vremya described, but I was scared of getting it in my lungs.

I have no doubt that if I left it to fester there I would have had one nasty infection.

I also suffer from blocked sinuses and I get a dull ache across my cheek bone, which is more uncomfortable than painful.

I think I will try the squirt cure next time it happens.

How funny! I was just comparing my Neti pot to being waterboarded the other day!

However, the waterboarding feeling goes away after you do it a few times. Bring it on secret CIA interogater!

Seriously, I use mine in the shower, so I can expel all the nastiness without much ado. I do it twice a day and its allowed me to totally stop taking Claratin and using nasal sprays. As a matter of fact, I'm off to the drug store right now to get my refills.

Sorry...though being tied down and gagged while having my sinuses irrigated would cause me to go insane. And anyway, 1 tablespoon of water at home verses a bucket or hose at Gitmo

I'm pretty amazed it works too, but not amazed enough to waterboard myself. My ex had one of those neti pots and just watching her use it made me uncomfortable.

When I was a nurse, I had to administer that. We used warm saline.

Warm water and iodine free salt are more comfortable, FYI.
It doesn't go up your sinus. It warms the openings to your nasal cavity and clears your nasal cavity, which is quite large.
Sinuses are there to keep our heads from being too heavy so our necks can support it. The nasal cavity's job is to warm air and collect things that shouldn't go into our lungs. If their full of mucous it's hard for them to do their job.

I fondly remember Adora telling me to get fucked when I suggested it for her frequent sinus infections.
