World's longest low speed chase
Finally ends, 13 years -- to the day -- later. And the jury deliberated for 13 hours.
For armed robbery of footballs. What a dummy.

Is he in custody already? I was hoping for a golf cart chase.

Happy trails, ya murdering fuck.
Dare I hope that we've heard the last of Fred Goldman as well?

Prosecutors didn't need to offer plea bargains in exchange for testimony, jurors said they couldn't trust witnesses, relied instead on evidence such as the recordings and other documented evidence to reach their verdict. Jurors denied they wanted to punish Simpson for past wrongs, one even said she prayed for him.

O.J. Simpson's lawyers request another trial
Lawyers for O.J. Simpson have filed a motion for a new trial, saying he was denied a fair hearing when two African-Americans were dismissed from the potential jury pool.
An all white jury found Simpson guilty on October 3 on 12 counts related to a September 13, 2007, robbery involving sports memorabilia at a Las Vegas hotel.

Re: World's longest low speed chase
I do wonder how someone like OJ can possibly get a fair trial. Was the entire jury composed of people who were too young to remember the media circus last time and/or hermits newly emerged from their caves?

Being found guilty of a crime you committed doesn't mean your trial was unfair.

Re: World's longest low speed chase
Sure, but that's not the point. When every living person in the country is likely to have an opinion of your character it's hard to imagine how you could put together an impartial jury.

He still seems to get chicks.
If an entirely black jury found him guilty would this all end?

Re: World's longest low speed chase
Yah, what vm said. I don't really have an opinion about this particular case, b/c I haven't paid the slightest attention to it, I just don't see how you can, in principle, have a fair trial if everyone in the country already has an opinion about your previous sensationalized trial.
For the record, I think he probably did kill whatshername, but the police fucked up the investigation monumentally, so not convicting him was the correct decision.

Re: World's longest low speed chase
I understand that some people think the juror's race is important, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm just saying that our judicial system hinges on the presumption that it's possible to assemble a reasonably impartial jury from the population, which seems unlikely in the case of someone whose extremely controversial past has been as highly publicized as his.

You could get six that thought he killed Brown and Goldman and six that didn't. That wouldn't be impartial, but it would be fair.

Re: World's longest low speed chase
How did the jury selection process work in this trial? Didn't OJ's lawyers have to allow or disallow people based on their questionaires etc?
I guess what I am asking is - was the defense happy with the jury that was picked? Is it possible they allowed these jurors so they could ask for a retrial based on 'race' if a guilty verdict was returned? It just seems like a big game to me.

Re: World's longest low speed chase
Should notoriety be allowed to confer immunity from prosecution? It seems to me that it is, in any case, impossible to guarantee that any jury is completely free of bias. If that is the case then it is always the case that the best possible outcome for the jury selection process is the seating of the least partial jury that it is possible to empanel. I think it ought to be the obligation of the defense to demonstrate, not that the jury was biased, but that the jury was not the least biased jury that it was possible to empanel, under the prevailing conditions.

Re: World's longest low speed chase
OJ was denied a new trial
.J. Simpson was denied a new trial Friday by the Nevada judge who presided over his conviction in the gunpoint robbery of two sports memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room.
Clark County District Court Judge Jackie Glass said challenges raised by lawyers for Simpson and co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart did not rise to the level of granting another trial.
"All of the issues have been preserved for the (Nevada) Supreme Court," Glass said, acknowledging her rulings could be appealed to the state's only appellate court.
Simpson and Stewart, who were shackled and in jail garb, did not speak during the 20-minute hearing.
The judge also denied requests to release Simpson and Stewart on bail pending sentencing Dec. 5.

Re: World's longest low speed chase
I'll say this for "Juice": he was a heck of a running back. Jim Brown often gets the nod as the greatest ever -- but he was (a little) before my time. Of those that I've seen play, none rates better than O.J. (although I could probably list 4 or 5 equals). He sure looked pretty with a football in his hands. Did you know he held a world record in track (4 x 100) for almost a decade?
(None of this has any bearing on his guilt or innocence, of course.)
