Garden State question...must track down song
I'm rewatching Garden State, and I'm having a hell of a time tracking down one of the songs in the film. One of my favorite scenes in the movie (one of my favorite scenes in any movie, for that matter) is the spin the bottle scene. It completely nails the 'alone in a crowd' feeling. Braff is sitting still on a couch, doing virtuall nothing but staring striaght ahead, while the other partygoers move around him in sped up time. Teh film makes very effective use of the soundtrack during the scene, playing a slow trancy song whenever the visuals speed up. I'd love to find a recording of the song they use..it's not on the soundtrack album. As I said, it's slow, kinda trancy, there's a woman singing, and the chorus begins "Do you believe in what you see...". Anyone have any ideas? Google is failing me here.

I dunno but I love that scene too. Do you think the intent was to capture the alone in a crowd feeling, though? I thought it captured the experience of doing hallucinogenic drugs in a crowded party perfectly, and IIRC he had taken something.
Anyway, good luck with the hunt. I'll see if I can find anything.

My first speculation based on Googling is Zero 7's In the Waiting Line.

Yah, I think that's some of it, too, and he does swallow a pill at the begining of the scene, but I think the primary idea in the scene is Braff's emotional disconnection from the people around him. Everyone else at the party is also high, but Braff is the only one sitting alone and letting the party flow around him rather than take part in it.
I guess my interpreattion might be at least partially based on personal experience. I'll occaisionally go home to visit my parents, and run into friends from high school who insist I go out with them, and it's always a very disorienting experience for some reason, being with people I was once close to but don't keep in touch with, sort of sitting in temporarily intheirlives, and I usually end up sitting, much like Braff's character, and letting everything flow around me.

Just looked up the lyrics..that's it! Thanks!
It's been over two years since I've used any sort of music sharing app. At times like these, it would be nice if I had one installed.

Hmm...perhaps I just need to get the soundtrack. I went to look up the song and I came across a couple people complaining that it wasn't on the soundtrack album, so i guess I just took their word for it.

Re: Garden State question...must track down song
I need to get the soundtrack too. I was seriously thinking that last time I was considering music purchases. I loved the music in that movie (and the soundtrack for Donnie Darko and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, for that matter.)

Re: Garden State question...must track down song
Those soundtracks are both great.
On that topic, has anyone seen the director's cut of Donnie Darko? I liked it overall, but was very disappointed that they replaced Echo and the Bunnymen's 'The Killing Moon' with INXS's 'Never Tear Us Apart' in the opening scene where Donnie wakes up on the road and bicycles home. I dig that INXS tune, but the Echo tune was perfect for that scene and I have no idea why they'd repalce it.

I haven't seen the director's cut yet, but I'm sure I'll own it some day.

As an expert in the advanced studies on the topic, I can definitively say you should drink more often. You would be less boring and more obnoxious that way. (yes, you DB, I took you off ignore for awhile)

Because if there's one thing this board needs, it's more attention-whoring masochists!
And you're hardly an expert on how I act when drunk, unless your disgustingly creepy past behaviour is indicative of similar crimes and you've been stalking me.

Alright, who told the bitch?
It isn't that I don't like you, it is simply that I prefer to show my love and adoration for you through emotional and physical abuse.

And after reading other threads, who needs stalking when you're that creepy already? Ew.

You do.
You may not think you require stalking, but clearly you do. You are an inane, psycho bitch who goes off for no particular reason and god forbid anyone should say anything related to gender. If anyone does by the time you get done with them they will be convinced they are the opposite gender, gay, and it doesn't really matter cuz society is an artificially constructed arsehole (notice my Australian) anyway.
I hereby nominate you for the most psycho bitch poster of the year award, but that doesn't mean I don't love you. I really do love you. You love me too, you simply don't realize it and I forgive you.
BTW: Why are you reading my other threads, you psycho bitch?

It's cute, yet still kind of creepy that you think I have that kind of power over people.
British, actually.

Because someone asked me in IRC, "Why does this psycho keep using your name?" And since I had no idea what they were talking about, I asked for URLs.

What you really mean is you personally saw my posts here where I used your handle as a multilingual curse word and got turned on and felt like engaging me in further dialouge.
So sad, but yet so honest in a non honest way which really just means sad. You see me using your nick as a curse word and it forces you to try and relate to me. Gawd, the sickness you carry. You can't help yourself, can you?

Re: Garden State question...must track down song
I thought I'd resurrect this thread to mention that I recently purchased two songs from the Garden State soundtrack via iTunes. Let Go by Frou Frou, and the subject of this thread: In the Waiting Line by Zero 7.
