Comedy The worst song of all time

Some of the Nominees are here... and the rest are at this link

I thought Randy Newman's 'Short People' would have been up there :chin:

Quote:
Several people nominated Starship's "We Built This City," a No. 1 hit from 1985 that was also named Blender magazine's worst song everexternal link. CNN Pipeline copy editor James Dinan put it best: "I got a laugh when I read that the original intent of this song was to be a statement against cracking down on artistic freedom. I'd support such a crackdown if it means this song will never be played again."

The Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight" got a few votes, as did Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart," Mr. Mister's "Broken Wings" and Don Johnson's "Heartbeat." ("Broken Wings" succeeded "We Built This City" as No. 1 by a few weeks; obviously, late 1985 was a golden age for bad songs.)

A couple folks named "MacArthur Park," which also won a Dave Barry worst song contestexternal link several years ago. Barry himself can't stand "In the Year 2525," which he called "relentlessly ugly" in his book "Tricky Business."

Then there were the generalists, who nominated such things as "anything ever recorded by Celine Dion" and "the REO Speedwagon catalog."

Of course, there were the novelty songs -- C.W. McCall's "Convoy," Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy," Rick Dees' "Disco Duck" and the Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps"

ugh, was it Tommy James and the Shondells that did Hanky Panky?

That was truely a gag worthy one. Of course, anything from the bubblegum phase was bad.

While many of the songs mentioned are "worst" worthy, none give me the creeps as much as Girl From Ipanema does. :shudder:

"I'm Too Sexy" rules, especially that part in the video where he tears his shirt off because he's too sexy for it.

I like watching guys tear their shirts off. It's so..."Incredible Hulk"! Only, not so green.

I'm sorry, but I think Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" has got to be the absolute worst.

When I think about bad songs I'm torn between choosing songs where the singer is bad/the song is good and the song is good/the singer is bad.

Yes, yes it does. That it appears on "worst of" lists is utterly perverse.

It even has the Third Stone From The Sun guitar riff, so the haters are condemning Jimi Hendrix by extension.

The Girl from Ipanema pops up out of nowhere and sticks in my head more often than any other song.

What? The Girl from Ipanema is a pretty good song! I like the video, too.

I agree with Dave Barry on The Year 2525, but the song that makes my butt itch hardest is probably Chicago's Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?, followed closely by everything else Chicago ever did, followed by every other song that is stupid in the same way.

I will never think of that song the same way again. :gleam:

Isn't every song ever done by Chicago on the famous "Elevator Classics Collection?" :puke: :puke: :puke:

Aw, geez..."Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" is like, a beautiful piece of music when compared to their "Freeform Guitar". It's like major sewage, but I didn't mention it here because it's not a "song", but a "tune". Thank dog is doesn't have any words, so you feel compelled to shoot only the guitarist.

This is how stupid I am: I actually started to LOOK FOR THIS out of curiosity. Fortunately, I caught myself before I found it or anything.

I'm just going to take your word for it.

Tune #7, from the flip side of their first album (1969) "Chicago Transit Authority".

Go find it. Listen. Come back and throw tomatoes at me.

Hee hee hee hee...
