Re: What's up with you?
The SAD has landed. This is the 3rd (4th?) day of gloomy skies with no sun and I can't cope. I was supposed to pack up and return to Alabama to spend my New Year days off with the family and I just couldn't make me get up and do it. I know it's because I left both dogs behind when I returned home after Christmas. I miss them but I lack the energy to make the 2 hour trip to be reunited with them.
I'm going to try again tomorrow. I'm lonely and sitting here moping about it won't change anything.
It would be great if the sun would show up tomorrow and help me out of this funk.
Blah.

Re: What's up with you?
Okay, déja vu time.
I am really gonna pull the plug this time. I have been waiting for over a month for the new work to begin, done a test, sent them a thousand emails that I couldn't access this or that website where they wanted me to fill out forms or whatever (some of which they actually responded to) and I feel like I am not getting anywhere while the bills keep piling up.
I am calling the unemployment guys tomorrow that I am surrendering after all...

Re: What's up with you?
Yeah, but the lunatic thing about it is that in order for me to get unemployment I need to stop doing any work as a freelancer. Then they will probably want me to start looking for jobs in this field, which there are none. There is only freelance work. I'm sure I'll have lots of fun trying to convince them of that...
Actually I've decided I want them to send me to school though. Get an education/course and go do something different. There is no future in this crap anyways.

Kiddo just walked out the door for his first experience with real guns
This is the deep South, people hunt and shoot and fish and shit like that. Gun safety is imperative because there are guns everywhere, and he won't even be shooting today, just watching and learning...but HE'S JUST A BABBY! He can't tie a shoelace!
Sad Mama here.

Re: What's up with you?
BTW, I am not anti-gun or anti-hunting or anything like that. I grew up in Colorado, FFS, and my Grandpa was from Montana and hunted with a bow and arrow, and I eat meat and I know where it comes from. Hubby took his old deer rifle and a shotgun I think, nothing assault or automatic about them and no gun nut security guards in the group.
Just didn't want anyone to think my family is on any extreme side of this thing. Hubby's childhood friend has been frothing at the mouth on FB about gun-totin' rights by Gawd...and I have always known him to be a sweet guy. Kind of a country, rodeo, church guy, but not the full metal jacket nut he seems to have become.

Computers will eventually take all those jobs, but not that soon. My brothers figure the current crop of translation software will keep them in business for quite a few more years. I do hope they've made a bundle of money and squirreled a bunch of it away though.

My local library offers digital subscriptions to some magazines' and it works really well. I am choosing to read "Mac World" on an Android tablet.

His little throat is very sore, so he didn't eat anything solid for several days. He has a weight check in a couple of weeks, which is not going to show much progress I'm afraid.
One funny thing, when I was putting him in the car to go to the dr, I bumped my knee and said, "Dang!" which elicited an almost perfect "Dang!" from froguar. Of course, I laughed at him and myself, which caused him to laugh and repeat. I'm sure it won't be so funny when he picks up the F-bomb. RA says our response will be that he's been watching too much cspan.

Re: What's up with you?
The good news is I discovered that my VIP invitation and free registration covers both ALA conferences this year, not just Midwinter as I had thought.
The bad news is that my boss is still dicking around on my request to go to Midwinter so I may have to use my vacation time for both. I think that is BS because they know I got a VIP invitation, but I'm not actually that upset about using my own time.* What's really annoying is that they won't give me a straight answer when it's only a little over a week away. I at least deserve that much.
*One bonus of that is it absolves me of the need to represent them and not network for other jobs while I'm there.

I had surgery to fix an inguinal hernia this morning. I am now resting comfortably at home, watching the second half of the first episode of "Prime Suspect" on Netflix.

Stomach flu makes insomnia by itself seem not so bad. The best thing I can say about my latest illness is that it has burned off all the lingering effects of my previous illness. Tonight, when I wake up at 3am and can't go back to sleep, I will meditate on that silver lining.

Re: What's up with you?
I went to the bar last night, sat there drinking Piraat beer and a shot of Bushmill's Irish Whickey, thinking, "Outside of the domestic drama, I have nothing going on in my life at all. Nothing." So I cut it short after that beer and shot, went home. To exist, because that's all I've got.

Re: What's up with you?
My mother's home went on sale last Friday afternoon. Saturday, she had 4 parties look at it. Saturday night, she got an earnest offer. Sunday, they finalized the sale price and closing date. Monday, they inked the deal contingent on passing an inspection. Tuesday, it passed inspection.
My mom is moving in with us for a short time, then we are all moving into a bigger house somewhere else (but I hope still in Kenosha, I really like this tiny city). Because my mom does not like the location of this house, across the street from an elementary school.
Then I have to sell my house. The house I would have liked to grown really old in. The one with the nice row of blueberry bushes we worked hard to plant.
Ah well. Things change in time. I can always get more blueberry bushes.

Re: What's up with you?
The CPAP machine has almost eliminated my need for afternoon naps. I miss them on the weekends but it sure is great to keep my eyes open after lunch at the office.
We're thatclose to getting my thyroid medications tweaked just right; I couldn't tell how much better I'd been feeling until it was pointed out to me by relatives and friends.
With these two developments I just might be feeling well enough to finally stop taking antidepressants. But there's no hurry yet; I remember how awful I felt the last time I stopped and don't really want to repeat that.
Anyway ... I'm happy to report that "life is good" is not just an advertising jingle.
