Rosie is not getting up this morning. She hasn't been eating much at all for 2 weeks, and last week we took her to the hospital o get supportive care - to see if she starts to recover. She perked up at the hospital due to IV fluids, but she still wasn't eating. We brought her home with a ton of meds, but she's still not eating.

So, today, she's not getting up, and I think we've done everything we can for her. I'm making arrangements for euthanasia now.

Holidays are a rough time for doggies, it seems.

Lost my Miss Lucy before the New Year 2011 rolled in.
Lost my Nikki last Christmas Eve.
This year my mother's mutt died on Xmas Eve due to being kicked by the horse she just wouldn't leave alone. (RIP, Sweet Pea.)
And my sister's dog hurt herself to the tune of a vet bill for $218.

We have a sick cat. She had a day or two of vomiting and has been given an injection to stop that, and is now doing nothing. Drinking, using the litter tray, and otherwise sitting as still as possible. Hasn't touched food since Friday morning.

Stuck in her stomach and trailing through her intestines. Removed by laparotomy. And now she's eating again! She went from 3.3kg to 2.6kg over 6 days, and is all bony now.

Still a bit groggy from the anaesthetic but otherwise fine.

Yeah, Joe said over on a different forum that it was a shoelace. Eleanor is eating again now, and needs to regain the weight she lost over the last week or so of not eating.

The vet says it's a shoelace - and the file name of the photo, for anyone who clicked on the bar to enlarge it, is "it's a shoelace.jpg"

But I haven't opened the specimen bottle yet ... maybe it is a baby bat.

She's recovering,so, excellent news. My previous cat stopped eating one Thursday. Monday morning she was dead. That's about eleven years after she hopped onto my kitchen window sill. Because she wore a pink collar with bell and sported four sutures from just having been desexed I left the window shut. Would have been like stealing. Three days later she still sat there, though. Then she lifted her paw, dabbed the glass and did a big sneeze. That was it. I wasn't thieving. I was rescuing a refugee. I flung the sliding part of the window open, the cat jumped across the sink, hopped on to my shoulder and started purring. Not having any cat food in the house, we shared a steak. Her piece was raw, mine medium rare.





The marks on my clothes and skin are from just having serviced my truck. Among other things that involved crawling between the chassis rails, front to rear, with a grease gun. I hated it, but the various mechanics I used before kept making mistakes, like not putting the the filler nut back on the gearbox housing, using the wrong type of bypass filter, missing grease points and so on.

Anyway, Baby had a good life while it lasted. She spent hours padding paper balls all over the floor, and even more time meditating. She'd sit on the mantle piece, or wherever, like an upright sphinx, eyes closed, paws together and tail curled around the front of them. Her meditations were so deep that attempts to distract her by getting near and reciting "You are beautiful, elegant and wiiiiiiiiiiiise beyond measure" never succeeded, no matter how often I tried. Truly, she was a very direct descendant of an Egyptian god.
