Here's one great stride that Agent Coulson's Marvel's Agents of SHIELD have made: They're not dragging every single plot arc out for ten or fifteen episodes. Only a few episodes in and we're getting some tighter scripting and questions that have actual answers and not another riddle in an enigma box. You can still see the seasonal arc building but it's at a proper slow burn and not some ridiculous SAVE THE CHEERLEADER build for ten episodes. Though sometimes they're still trying to cram everyone's little thing into every episode, that's happening a little less. Last night's episode had everyone working on something slightly different but they ended up at the same conclusion. Which was nice.
Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones based on the comic Alias released yesterday. All the episodes are currently available on the Flix of Net. I probably would have already burned through all of them but I have to measure them out carefully on account of the powerful need for sleep and other humang things. I did get through the first episode and it definitely continues the same seedy/gritty street level heroing (and not heroing as in JJ's case) started by Daredevil.
Watched the first three episodes so far and definitely way more in the line of Daredevil, then say, Supergirl, but not as gritty DD I don't think.
I'm really liking it, but not as much as DD, not yet anyway. I do think they are setting up KG nicely, as in slowly and creepily. Loving the mostest Kyrsten Ritter and Mike Colter, also loving very much Rachael Taylor. I already loved Carrie-Anne Moss and David Tennant.
I can see me finishing this in a day or 2 more at most.
I was a little bit suspect of having Luke Cage in this and then spinning him off so quickly into his own show, but dude (Mike Colter) is awesome and I can't wait for it now.
I don't really like Deadpool. He's a Rob Liefeld creation, which is automatically a strike against him. He was created in the glut of the XTREME 90s - strike two. And, well, most of the time I prefer my heroes to be, you know, heroic. I can enjoy a villain (Doctor Doom, Victor Fries are two of my favorites) and even the odd anti-hero. All in small doses. Which is about as much of Deadpool I can take. Even if I can, with an eyeroll, appreciate the space in which a character like Deadpool operates.
But gosh darnit if the Deadpool The Movie movie wasn't good enough to be fun. I didn't want to like it. I didn't want to go see it. But the roommate insisted, so we did. And if you know anything about Mr Pool, it's exactly what you'd expect. Those who don't know. Imagine an animated Blackwater guy - but actually kinda funny and even charming in his teenage angsty I say the things just so moms of America can clutch their pearls at my irreverence way. If you've seen Ryan Reynolds in any other action movie - that's pretty much it turned up to 11.
It was the role he was actually genetically engineered to play, tbh.
It earns its R rating in all categories that matter. Lots of violence (cgi animated blood and gore), lots of cursing (actual human words) and lots of tee hee sexual references and a walk through a strip club.

And Morena Baccarin boobies.

I enjoyed Deadpool as well. I wasn't very familiar with the character but the trailers and the marketing campaign piqued my interest.
It was well worth the $8 matinee price of entry.
I did have one problem with it though.
That was the CGI rendering of Colossus, especially his arms. Yes they are rendered pretty much how many of those with super strength are in the comics, and that is my problem. Something more realistic, as they have done with renderings in the X-Men movies would have been better, IMO.

I thought I was done with trailers for the upcoming Civil War. But then it's all over all my feeds. Everborty is going ham with ZOMG SPIDER-MANS, which is a big deal sure. But I'm sitting here going HOLY FUCKING SHIT, T'CHALLA JUST CHASED DOWN A MOTORCYCLE.
Daredevil is the best of them all. I just finished season 2 and now I am the sad because there is no more. I enjoy SHIELD, I love Agent Carter, Jessica Jones was fucking awesome, but man, Daredevil is the best of them all.
My roommate is completely confused about what happened with Elektra and that "egg" the Hand were digging up and pumping tainted blood into. I laughed but then I wasn't able to adequately explain what was happening. In my defense, we did binge eight episodes.
With the success of Marvel + Netflix, I'm definitely looking forward to the upcoming Luke Cage series and then the Defenders. I definitely enjoy the movies for their big comic book-ness. I'm loving the Netflix stuff because of how personal it gets. I can't pick a best between Jessica Jones and Daredevil. AND YOU CAN'T MAKE ME.

Well it seems like the egg is the hand's key to immortality (or at least coming back from the dead). They showed a scene first of Elektra's grave having been dug up, so I guess the hand dug up their Black Sky and are going to bring her back from the dead. In fact it was timed perfectly with Easter for me. I wonder if she's going to be in there for 3 days

Do it! PICK ONE! DO IT!
To be fair I did say to Sou that I would need to give JJ a second season to be sure, but it's going to be tough to beat DD.
And seriously, I've only ever seen people use "I'd watch/read the shit out of that" here on so it hit me like a brick when Ellison said it
Daredevil has been very good. I like D'Onofrio as the Kingpin, but only in small doses. If he starts pontificating too much, Edgar from MIB comes out and ruins it for me.

Went away for the weekend and we saw Civil War. I was expecting to come back here and see some reviews, but I guess Marvel hates America. So here is some of what I thought:
Non-spoilery - It was I went in cautiously optimistic because the reviews were pretty positive. "The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported a 94% approval rating based on 113 reviews, with an average rating of 7.9/10" But overall I was disappointed. I don't think it is a bad movie, but it certainly isn't something to get excited about. As usual the acting and effects were great, but the plot was rushed (big time) and yet the movie still felt sooooo slow at times. They were trying to fit in way to much exposition into one film, even if it was 2.5 hours. They also made a couple of choices that were just plain stupid imo, see below.
How the fuck does Tony Stark just happen to know that Peter Parker is Spiderman? It is just such a monumental part of Spiderman that basically no one knows his identity, that is why it's a HUGE deal in the Civil War comics that he joins TeamStark and unmasks himself. Couldn't they have had Iron Man just fly around New York and find Spiderman and speak to him? That rubbed me wrong, but maybe I'm too much a stickler for the comics. The other thing is why the fuck did Aunt May need to be a MILF? Aunt May is already old when Peter is in high school, not a 40 year old hot Marisa Tomei. I know she's 52 IRL, but she doesn't look it and Aunt May never looked like that. It's just stupid and seemed... wrong. Maybe some people will think it's funny, I don't know.
On the other hand, I thought they did Spiderman's fight scenes really well, the webbing looked better and was used better than any previous movie. They showed how strong he is as well as fast and mobile. If I had one complaint it would be that they could have maybe showcased the Spider-sense in a scene. His wisecracking-teenager-loving-it attitude was great and a welcome bit of comic relief in a mostly painfully dull movie. I know some people don't like Joss Whedon's humour, but it was sorely missed in this (almost) Avengers film.
There was lots of problems with the way they introduced the Sokovia accords (superhero registration act). For one, they show them footage of New York (Avengers 1), Washington DC (Cap 2) and Sokovia (Avengers 2) and say "You dudes are fucking DANGEROUS!!! You know how many people died!?" and no one says "You know how many people would have died if we weren't there?!". In the case of Sokovia, that is 100% the Avengers fault (*coughTONYSTARKcough*). Stark created Ultron and none of that would have happened if he didn't. But in the other cases, most of the problem was started by SHIELD, a government run entity.
For two, Stark is driven to sign the accords by the guilt of a mother showing him the picture of her boy that died in Sokovia. He fucking created Ultron, the others said don't do it, he did it anyway. THOUSANDS of people died and they are all 100% Stark's responsibility, not the Avengers, STARK! He comes out terrible in this movie, like awful, awful, awful in so many ways.
Shit, this is getting long so I'll just say: Antman was good too. Not enough fighting. Too slow even though they were trying to pack in 12 months of comics spread across many, many series. They tried to cram WAY too much into this movie and it suffered plot-wise from it.
