OMG. I am so into Ingress that I was nominated to be a moderator in our local community.
Last night I accepted an invitation to be a mod for the NOFU (North Fulton county) area of the ATL, I hope the drama isn't too unbearable. I'm hoping to make it to two farming events today but damn it got cold again.
I woke up before my hosts this morning and snuck out to do a very little bit of fielding over Arizona. Two layers, a little over 700 MUs total. I walked a mile out and back to do it. I got very lucky with keys, which was nice because I'm out of heat sinks. It was still more productive than yesterday, when I ran across the street to Rubio's to get in one hack and keep my sojourner streak up. Fuckin muggles, they just don't get it.
I had a great time farming yesterday morning. There were 9 of us so we were able to make a park into an 8 farm--my first time doing that. Today I spent the whole day in Athens, GA with a couple other smurfs (a father/son team) hacking the botanical gardens and then fighting a couple psycho frogs for control of a park. Met a few other smurfs while there. When I got home this evening I cleared some area around my house and threw about 20-25k worth of fields, so today was a good day.
I didn't have time to field it myself, just destroyed the main anchors really. Did a little farming while I was there and picked up some L7/L8 stuff which was sorely needed.
Edit: Meant to say that those were (are*) some big blue triangles, I think the longest link there is over 40km.
I ended up with 140 unique visits, 121 unique caps, 3.8kmus and 14 km walked.
Nice! I got about 75 unique caps and 120 unique visits in Athens. Would've gotten more if not for the frog attack. Unique caps is the whole reason I wanted to go there; just 110 more for the gold badge and then Level 12 here I come!
The landscape has been pretty devastated since Shonin on Saturday (where both teams ultimately did more damage to each others' plans than succeeding in their own), so the path was pretty clear for me to put up a double field of 5,8K MU's with almost no effort. All I had to do was wait for a smurf to take down the existing green field that was in the way, which they obligingly did this morning and then throw a few links from pracically my front yard and on the way to pick up my daughter from practice.
Put me to #2 in our cell for the ENL standing this cycle so far.
I got my friend playing the game so now we are fielding and leveling her up at a shopping center. It is hot as balls out! This is the second time I have done this ... sacrificed a weekend of unique caps in order to level someone else up, but I finally unlocked that recruiter badge, so, worth it!
It's a team sport so while badges are cool and all, once you're past level 8 and get the good gear, the nature of the game changes. It only went to 8 for over a year, then until recently there wasn't any real benefit to gaining levels, except bragging rights and a slightly larger xm bar. Now they've doubled the xm bar.
The fun part for me is not grinding for levels but having a functioning team. Talking to other adults from all other backgrounds about a non-controversial topic, running around at night taking down the other teams fields and farms, gentle banter and a fair amount of mind fuck. So much fun!

I am also hoping to get the Shonin badge, some from our team got it already yesterday. I was a part of it, though mostly passively (key-keeper and home defense recharger), pre-emptively (ADAing fields the night before) and during the very last minutes, as I had to work for the entire four hours it was on so wasn't active in the field. So kind of dreading that they left me off the list...
I had seen that too and of course hacked a portal first thing I could today. My Sojourner is on 27, but I'm not sure if that includes today or not. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if it worked or not
I did get something done today though, I went out and made a 5 layer field. Three big layers of 5.1k mu, 4.4k and 4.1k and two smaller ones of only a few hundred each. I also made a couple of largish single layers for 1.7k and 1.1K. This was similar to what I did last time, but the layers are slightly larger triangles that catch a little of the town and thus more mu's.
I met the AP requirement for level 12 after a farm raid yesterday morning, so all I needed was a gold badge to level up. I was so sure that Pioneer was going to be my next gold badge that I've been hyper-focused on getting unique captures over the past week. Then, with just 50 unique captures to go, I was completely surprised by earning gold Translator!
So I'm level 12 now, y'all. Reckanize.
Now I'm just one gold, one platinum, and ~4 million AP away from level 13. The badges should be relatively easy. I'm only 21 unique captures away from the gold, and my first platinum will probably be Recharger since I'm 3/4 off the way there already. The AP will of course just take time, but according to agent-stats I earn ~1 mil/week.
We had a NOFU (just realized that's funny, thanks Qing) lunch yesterday--8 smurfs having Italian food and shooting the shit, then we farmed a bit afterward. Good times.
L12 is p. awesome vm for how long you've been playing.
1M ap a week is super awesome in my books
I just looked and I think I've been playing about 12 weeks now and I'm just over 2M AP. Considering you can't do much the first couple of weeks I guess I'm averaging about 200k per week. I'm a bit surprised at that, I would have guessed half that...
I seem to get the medals easily enough, it's the AP I'm short on, so will be AP keeping me from levelling up for a while now. I only need 2 more gold for level 11 and I should have translator, trekker and illuminator long before I get the 4M AP I need.
