At some point during the ordeal, Ramsey managed to post on Facebook, "Well folkes [sic] im [sic] about to get shot. Peace."

The ordeal included him kidnapping and raping a woman, setting fire to a house after she escaped and sought refuge there, stealing a truck, and ramming at least two police cars. But he posted on Facebook? WTF?

Also, I love my kid. A lot. But, if he turns out to be a violent rapist I would never, ever go all ignorant like this

Ramsey, the alleged attacker, was paroled last summer after spending five years in prison for felonious assault. He also had a violent criminal history.

"For anything that he did actually do, I'm sorry for the people that he may have hurt, but believe me, that wasn't the way he was," Cindy Gimmey, Ramsey's mother, told ABC News' affiliate WJRT-TV in Flint, Mich.

Bright spot, good kids taking that poor rape victim in and hiding her despite the danger. They were very brave.

Since I don't want to pay for him being in prison for the rest of his life, I would suggest you remove him from society, and dispose of him in a way that doesn't cost me anything.

Unless you live in Alabama it won't cost you a thing. There doesn't seem to be grounds for any Federal charges

The man who ignited a hostage standoff in southern Alabama when he shot a bus driver and took a child into an underground bunker is a “survivalist” who has ties to the antigovernment movement, an official with the Dale County Sheriff’s Office told Hatewatch this morning.

If you're referring to capital punishment, that's actually far more expensive than life imprisonment.

And I guess since Ramsey's dead, there will not be any cost to anyone, except to stick him in a hole in the ground, that should go to the family. They should also take the cost of the police cars out of the estate or the family.

I read that, but couldn't find any citation for the original source of this information. Where did SPLC get it?

Sorry thedoc, I made a mistake, you were talking about Ramsey and I was talking about Dykes. Ramsey wasn't in Alabama, but also didn't face any Federal charges that I could see, so my point stands that you wouldn't pay anything unless you were a citizen of the state the crimes took place in.

Thats OK, but my assesment still stands, if they get Dykes out and save the boys life, for killing the bus driver they should still just stick him in a hole in the ground and cover him up. Exicution is optional but not necessary.

It says in the quote an official with the Dale County Sheriff's Office told them. I guess the Sheriff has a file on him?

I can't figure out why people are so against the insanity defence. If someone is insane they don't get out until a doctor says they are sane. If they go to jail they get out when their "time is served." How is it being lenient on someone to say they are crazy?

Has no one seen One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest? It won awards. I'm sure it's been seen.

Especially now that they're using "They're crazy!" as a mechanism of punishment, thus revisiting the era of punitive psychiatry that was perfected in the USSR by Khrushchev.

I nearly had to sit in on of these cases, a committal under the provisions of the "Sexually Violent Predator Act". Obviously, the instant you call it the "Sexually Violent Predator Act", half the jury has made up their minds to go along with the prosecution, and those that haven't are in the position of explaining in the jury room why they want to let a "sexually violent predator" out on the streets. For a sizable percentage of America's most aggressive gun fetishists (not "enthusiasts," please—there's a difference between shooting as a hobby and stockpiling guns as your own personal anti-government, anti-society religion) the ability to quickly murder a classroom or two of elementary school kids isn't a bug. It's a feature.

This would be the prime argument of all the loons citing incipient "tyranny" as the reason they deserve guns, and all possible guns at that. If you're claiming that you need your guns because you might need to murder members of the government (yes, that is what "fighting tyranny" comes down to, when you're doing it with stockpiled ammunition), then the ability to murder a large number of people quickly is a prime feature. These aren't people who mumble about needing high capacity, military style weaponry because today's modern deer really need 30 or so shots pumped into them before they'll stay down—they're perfectly blunt about saying they need it because someday, there's gonna be "tyranny," and if they themselves wake up one morning and decide that "tyranny" has come they need to be able to go to their closet, arm up, and start killing people who think otherwise. Often, for some reason that most of the rest of us can't even begin to parse, it's couched in crackpot religious terms, often citing "prophesies" and other Jesus-sounding stuff as the reason why potential mass murder is, well, just around the corner.

That someone can easily dispatch a roomful or two of elementary school children, or college students, or theater-goers, or restaurant-goers with these same weapons is not seen by these people as something that needs fixing—at all. Yes, it's sad that those particular people got murdered, but whether Americans have the God-given right to murder a large number of people quickly, and easily, if they feel the circumstances warrant it is something the tyranny fetishists will go to their graves, or your grave, or the local sheriff's grave believing in.

A local man who killed his father with a weedwhacker was just recently judged not guilty by reason of insanity. I think that was probably the correct judgement.

That the U.S. Government in general and Obama in particular are trying to take away their "gun rights" in order to make the inevitable rounding up and imprisonment/killing of all "True Americans" easier is apparently an article of faith in many circles. And it's not new. I have acquaintances who have been adamantly opposed to all gun-control laws for decades now, on the grounds that the instant they think they can get away with it, the Government is going to start rounding up and imprisoning all "Freedom-Loving True Americans."
