:drudgesiren: CURSES FORCES BBC TO EXTERMINATE POPULAR ACTOR :drudgesiren:
Obama administration suspiciously silent on the issue

Quote:
“Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show. I’m incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realise all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience. Many of them have become good friends and I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved over the last four years.

Having Steven Moffat as show runner write such varied, funny, mind bending and brilliant scripts has been one of the greatest and most rewarding challenges of my career. It’s been a privilege and a treat to work with Steven, he’s a good friend and will continue to shape a brilliant world for the Doctor.

The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I’ve never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable. Thank you so very much for supporting my incarnation of the Time Lord, number Eleven, who I might add is not done yet, I’m back for the 50th anniversary and the Christmas special!

It’s been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant actors, and helm the TARDIS for a spell with ‘the ginger, the nose and the impossible one’. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank you guys. Matt.”
GOD YOU'RE SO MEAN, CURSES I HOPE YOUR HAPPY.

Wallander. Just pretend they're speaking Swedish and it's all good. I spent the whole first episode wondering why all Swedish cops were British immigrants until I saw that everything depicted as written was in Swedish and they all had Swedish names. Really interesting detective stories, and beautifully shot and acted.

The Fades...um, angsteenager-supernatural-sci-fi? Whatever, I liked it.

Any Human Heart just came on Prime and I will be starting it tonight.

:sadcheer: I love Eleven almost as much as I love Nine.

Moffat does better monsters. Davies does everything else better.

OMG have you seen Bleak House yet? Her Lady Dedlock makes an amazing counterpoint to her Miss Havisham.

I watched Bleak House first, and it was excellent. I'd no idea she was in Great Expectations until I started watching it. When she came on the screen I almost peed my pants, and I am not really easily creeped.

Bunheads is available on Amazon, so I'm told. You should all watch it because it's wonderful.

Creating Freedom: The Lottery of Birth (2013) - IMDb
Quote:
THE LOTTERY OF BIRTH is the first in a three-part documentary series entitled 'Creating Freedom' exploring the relationship between freedom, power and control in Western democracies. The series draws together interviews with some of the world's leading intellectuals, journalists and activists to offer an alternative perspective on today's society and the future we're creating. We do not choose to exist, or the environment we grow up in. Our starting point in life is one of passive reliance on forces over which we have no control. THE LOTTERY OF BIRTH shows that from birth onwards our minds are a battleground of competing forces: familial, educational, cultural, and professional. The outcome of this battle not only determines who we become, but the society that we create.
If you haven't seen this documentary you should. We have discussed many, if not most, of the points raised, but I found it very impactful having it all in one place. It's also very well done from a filmmaking perspective, IMO

Do you guys watch Key & Peele? We watch on Comedy Central, but the first two seasons are on Amazon Prime, too.

They are on Amazon Prime now. Talking about Key & Peele is allowed. Additionally, I really enjoyed the Nerdist podcast when they were on.

I just watched Miss Potter, and though I understand it was not necessarily an accurate portrayal, it was a lovely film and I shall now endeavor to learn more about this woman.

I got the email informing me of the hike this morning. I was pretty meh about it. I get enough value out of it that I'll pay the hundred bucks. I sort of wonder if they floated the $40 hike back in January specifically so the $20 hike would seem less severe by comparison.

Also:

Quote:
Some analysts said consumers tended to strongly resist online fee hikes, such as when Netflix Inc tried in 2011 to raise its annual subscription fee by what it called "the price of a latte." It backtracked after a customer revolt.
Uhhh...

Is that what actually happened? I'm pretty sure customers "revolted" because Netflix tried to split into two separate services (Qwikster lol), and that's the only part that was backtracked. The price hike still went through...they stopped giving you free streaming with a disc subscription, and started charging for it.

Yeah, I've been a Prime member for nigh on a decade. I can't really begrudge them a $20 hike at this point.

It would be cool if there was more stuff on Prime, and if I could restrict my searches on the Roku app to just what is on Prime.

I am not begrudging the 20.00 either, livius. ES, I watch a lot on it, but the free 2 day shipping is what has me addicted to Amazon and pays for my Prime membership.

I hope for my extra $20 they let me stream to my Chromecast*. Hard-wiring to my TV is such a pain and I refuse to watch movies on my computer screen.

*Yeah, I know you can do it with the Chrome browser. But doing it that way is laggy and kills the experience.

If yours is like mine, laggy doesn't begin to describe it. Straight up audio out of sync with video makes it unwatchable for us.
