OMG, CUTE!
My internet is farting all the time, so the first time I watched it before it was all cached up, it sounded even more trancey.
I liked it better the second time, though.

OMG, I had a dream about BrotherMan last night!
They were showing a picture of him on the news wearing a ski mask and holding up a baby, but I don't remember why.

No, it was his baby. He was holding it up like, "Hey, check out my awesome baby!"

In that case, the intent was clearly, "Hey, I have here a baby that I did not abort! Vote Palin/Brotherman 2012!"

Re: Miscellany
At this point I'd request a name change to BabyDaddyMan, but that would defeat the purpose of wearing a ski mask to remain anonymous and everything. Besides, lisapea would see through even the most cleverist of disguises. Also.
No doubt I was holding up my baby as proof, demonstrable, irrefutable proof, of its Earthican heritage so that in 40 or so years people on the galactanet (the obvious descendant of our worldnet) would spend yagos and yagos (that's the future equivalent of pages and pages) of data disputing whether or not it could be the United Ruler and All Around Decent Guy of the Sol System.

Re: Miscellany
On another board I saw a discussion about some public libraries having "rules" about when kids can get their own library cards. Quite a few require kids to be able to write their first and last names, some require they be a certain age or grade level. Um, why? If the parents are responsible for the materials anyhow, why not give the kids their own card if they want one? What a dumfucking thing to make some arbitray rule about.
Kiddo is 3.5 and has his own card. He asks the librarian questions and checks his own stuff out. I thought it would be good to start him early, and the librarians here were thrilled to issue him a card, and are always going out of their way to help him.

Re: Miscellany
So I was working today (cashier at a grocery store). It's important to know that we have a weird setup:
A woman leaves her (teeny) 2-year-old daughter in the cart. I chat her up (insanely cute kid). She shakes her sippy cup upside down, spraying her leg and dress. I ask mom if she'd like me to clean her up, and I do.
When they leave, I tell my new friend "bye-bye!" and she blows me kisses. I'd been there for 7 hours at that point, and it made my goddamn day.

Re: Miscellany
So I was looking for information on a concept I was unfamiliar with (homeschool co-op if you're interested in the boring details), and clicked on an associated content link. Instead of a written article, it was a really, totally, shitty and boring video. Now this was not any information in need of visuals or voice tone, the camera angle sucked and the speaker paused for like an hour before she started speaking and wasn't a great speaker.
So, if you are imparting somewhat dry information, you can and should do so in text. Video is just not the right medium for such shit.

Re: Miscellany
Oh, fuck yes. I think people just get some notion that video is a superior medium or something.
When I'm looking for or interested in something, and I find a video that's supposedly relevant, I'll maybe only watch it 25% of the time or so, whereas I'll almost always read (or at least start to read) a text version.
Plus, I have my sound through the radio in my office, which I don't always bother turning on, so if I'm ambivalent, I will forgo watching things because I just don't feel like getting up and turning on the radio.

Re: Miscellany
Could be, but if they're not going to read, they're probably not going to sit and watch some boring, real time linear recitation of exactly the same stuff, either. Even for something that lends itself to visual explanations would usually be better presented with text plus regular illustrations.
Some things lend themselves to video, obviously, and some presentations are compelling enough to make video worth it; but most people using the internet aren't actually illiterate, and those who are are really unlikely to be looking up detailed information on stuff.
So in a lot of cases, just providing a video is appealing to a tiny tiny fraction of your intended audience to the detriment of everyone else.
