I got tired of all my old podcasts, so I'm looking for new ones now.

So far, my new favorites are Glynn Washington's Snap Judgment and Spooked. Snap Judgment is sort of This American Life style, with standalone first person stories, and Spooked is that too, but all spooky stories about hauntings and cryptids and stuff. But the presentation is better than the standard NPR style, which I don't hate or anything. It's just not as good.

So firstly, I recommend both of those if you haven't heard them yet.

Secondly, I want more recommendations like that. I like long form journalism stories for the daytime, but I like to listen to podcasts like bedtime stories, too. And for that, I like standalone stories, half an hour to an hour long, usually with a single narrator (none of that 'friend experience' style), no silly voices or over the top effects, and ideally, purportedly true stories about hauntings and cryptids and things that I don't literally believe in, but are still spooky. Because I am a big giant fussbudget.

I sort of like Uncanny and even some of Mr. Ballen, too, but Spooked is the best.

(Also, I should download all the Vincent Price recordings on archive.org for that, too.)

It's a little niche, so skeptical spooky stories?

Of the ones I know, Monstertalk comes the closest. Mostly they discuss the monster/cryptid of the episode (beware of puns, really), but they sometimes (around Halloween I guess) they sometimes have a spooky story read by the main host. I only know that because I always get annoyed and skip those episodes; I don't want a story, I want FACTS.
They have also recently been doing a series they like to call "deBased on a True Srory", so featuring "real" ghost/scary stories and such that made it into movies (Amityville, The Hills Have Eyes, The Exorcist, etc). But as I said, mostly discussions and not monologuing, often with experts in the field.

Not so much stories, but closest to the single narrator in my sphere would be Skeptoid.

Okay, been meaning for a while to upload some gushing recommendations of podcasts I think you folks will relish too.

The Fault Line: : Bush, Blair and Iraq
This was mentioned by a host on Novara Media in connection with the 20th anniversary of the catastrophic invasion of Iraq, and I went in search of it and was glad I did. A glowing review from the Guardian: The week in audio: The Fault Line: Bush, Blair and Iraq; The Heist | The Guardian

But that turned out to be just the hors d’’oevrre, when it led me to the second series under "The Fault Line" banner.

The Fault Line: Dying for a Fight
... is a gob-smacking piece of true crime political expose investigative journalism set in Portland OR. A beautiful, heartbreaking, detailed portrait of Antifa activism v Neonazism allied with police corruption; it's a real case which, due in no small part to this podcast's exposure of police failures, has since moved forward and ... well if you want to you can look it up online, but I recommend you don't and instead allow the story to unfold as the podcasters intend.

(The podcast links are to Apple Podcasts, but I'm sure you can find them wherever ...)

Sou and I just listened to Sweet Bobby. It's 6 episodes long and was perfect length to cover the 5 hours of driving we did today.

It's a true crime podcast that covers the insane catfishing story of Kirat Assi that takes place over 10 years and involves dozens of fictional people. It's ludicrous and calling it a catfishing story doesn't really do it justice. The depth, extent and cruelty involved is unbelievable.

I would recommend it simply because the story is so insane and captivating. The production :soso: If you give it a go, try at least 2 or 3 episodes as the first one is pretty annoying, but it gets much better.
