Sarah Miers Palin
Since the other thread is headed into the murky waters of political theory ...
That's good.

Re: Sarah Miers Palin
Aren't so-called community organizers some of the "thousand points of light" George Bush's dad was pimping before he got defeated by the first black President?

Also, if you missed The Daily Show last night, this is pure genius:
Breathtaking conservative hypocrisy.

Re: Sarah Miers Palin
She blew them away!
Good God, where has she been all our lives? Will America be the same after Sarah Palin’s smash debut last night? Or shall history now cleave neatly between B.S. (Before Sarah) and A.S. (After Sarah)?
She’s a pit bull with lipstick! That’s what the New York Post said! And as Gore Vidal said of the Post, “Its editors are capable of doing simple sums.”
My God, The Post interviewed people in a bar! Average Minnesota voters, the article said. Catch that: Average voters. No snooty elitists! What was the name of the bar? The Loon Cafe.
"She's so firm, she's a brick," gushed Pat Addy, a 29-year-old car salesman, after the first-term Alaska governor and mother of five spoke. "She's showing me that she is acting as individual, whereas Obama is more of a Democratic puppet. I feel closer to her now. She is like a parent, a teacher and a leader."
A parent, a teacher, and a leader!
"I like that she's coming out fighting,” said Connor Barrett. “She has a really impressive delivery and I like her hair."
He likes her hair.
Palin is a pro-creationist, global warming denialist who, at her church, not only told the congregation that the Iraq War was “Gawd’s plan,” but also asked them to pray for a natural gas pipeline that she supported building. Why? Because the pipeline was part of Gawd’s plan. I had no idea that Gawd was responsible for planning Alaska’s petrochemical infrastructure.
Are the American people dumb enough to swallow this farce? Is all of America really just The Loon Cafe?
We’ll find out the first Tuesday in November!

Re: Sarah Miers Palin
Nobody remembers Obama's speech at the DNC any more. All anyone (including me) cares about is Palin.
Her speech was mainly remarkable for eliciting rave reviews, despite its utter mediocrity. People were amazed that Palin could actually make a semi-articulate speech.
By the way, I think Palin deserves all the attention. She's way more fun than Obama, Biden or McCain -- none of whom have pregnant, teenaged daughters, whacky beliefs about how Alaska will become a place of refuge during the "End Times", or snow-machine racing champion spouses.
Sarah Palin rules! So do Bristol, Willow, Trigg, Reed and and the rest of the bizarrely monickered Palin clan.

My pleasure. Now for the buzzkill, go watch the videos of Palin preaching at her church. While Governor.
I'm all about the fun too, as long as there's no way in Hell these people are going to win the White House.
Otherwise, not funny. At. All.

No thank you. TDS managed to wedge a crack in my cynicism-shield last night, and I've been having a really rough, rage-filled day today because of it.
IOW: Buzz already sufficiently killed.

I only heard the first bit of her speech, which I reduced down to the message, "I'm proud."
Now there's a platform!

Re: Sarah Miers Palin
"I know this sounds hokey, but basketball was a life-changing experience for me," Palin told the Anchorage Daily News in 2006.
This is comedic gold. Suppose McCain wins and then the old coot dies in office. Palin gets to be president!
In that case, they should broadcast live from the Oval Office and White House living quarters 24/7, an extended Reality Show sitcom, something like "The Truman Show" (No, not Harry Truman; the movie).
The whole show could focus on Sarah, and the kids, Piper, Bristol, Willow and Track; the husband Todd (three-time Iron Dog snowmachine champion); and of course, the horndog boyfriend Levi Johnston ("I'm a goddmaned red neck!"), who knocked up Bristol.
Why not? Who says her family is off limits? Why is her family off limits, but not, for instance, gay families, or family members who want to have abortions? The Republicans certainly think those families are fair game for government control and censure, and most of those targets are not even public figures!
But, seriously, it'll be great. You'll see. I imagine Sarah will have a huge stuffed moose head nailed to the wall over her desk in the Oval Office, and outside you'll see oil derricks on the White House lawn. The first episode can involve the horndog Levi coming in to the Oval Office to tell Sarah he's changed his mind and doesn't want to marry Bristol; and more, he thinks Bristol should have had an abortion but since she didn't, he now thinks Bristol ought to put the kid up for adoption to a gay couple. Watch the fur fly! "The Palins!" Coming next year on CBS!

Is there anything bitchier than a woman who "speaks truth to power"?

Well, you see, if I want to have a family, it's a threat to children and the sanctity of marriage and so on and so forth, and Republicans have the obligation to say so.
BUT, if my father were Dick Cheney, it would be an occasion for congratulations, and it would also be unseemly for anyone to talk about it, much less talk about it negatively.
Similarly, you can't talk about Palin's family (unless you're talking about how wonderful it is, of course), but you can tell tactless jokes about how the Clintons' daughter is ugly (and of course, about how Janet Reno is both manly and ugly).
Also, you must respect Bristol's decision to not get an abortion and to keep the baby, but we must also work tirelessly to ensure that other pregnant teenagers don't even get to make a decision.
