Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
WTF is going on with the near wing in that picture? Is it just some crazy effect of the wind coming off it?

Lens flare?
I think it's distortion from the jet engine's exhaust.

The 787 Dreamliner has that much flex in its composite material wings. I think it's scary and might break during flight.

That's just Imperial propaganda so they can justify the use of actual jackbooted thugtroopers to keep the simple moisture farmers down.

Alrighty, I think that I now have all of the necessary understanding to participate in this thrad.
I figure this guy must be an expert because he is from that movie!
You know, it seems like this would also be a good day to finally merge this with the other thread about The Star War.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
If you believe Vanity Fair, the wicked looking chrome plated Storm Trooper you see in the trailers for the Star Trax War? That's Gwendoline Christie - aka Brienne of Tarth.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
Here it is in case you've fallen under a rock. The Star Wars Force Awakens newest trailer thing.
The WTF news: Some people are mad that a negro and a woman are so prominent in their Trax stories for some reason. I don't get it, but there it is. Probably the same morans who were upset about the Mad Max being more about the Furiosa Road and such.
People are all excited about ALL THE THINGS in the trailer. There's lightsabers and ray guns and a bunch of people we recognize and new people we don't. Let me note something nobody has mentioned yet: The music.
The whole thing will probably be scored by John Williams. It might be a whole new score with recognizable thematic elements from the previous movies. In this trailer, though, I thought it an interesting choice with the music they presented. One might expect some of the big bombastic elements from the main theme. We did get a little bit of that in the first trailer but only a little bit in this one. Instead they chose to pull from the Empire Strikes Back themes. Namely the love theme used for Han and Leia (1:05) and then later bits from the Imperial March (1:24).

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
@bort-I have to admit we watched the trailer at halftime. We found a live stream and only had to wait a couple of minutes. For some reason ESPN wouldn't let me log in because fuck you comcast.
I looooved the fact that they used the Williams score in the trailer. Mr Curses and I both remarked on that as well because apparently we're all awesome or something.
And let folks be butthurt. I'd rather they not show up at a movie I plan on enjoying in the fullest, probably several times in the theater.

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
You know, don't think I asplained the love of the music in the trailer well. And fuck editing, new post for the postcount!
What little dialogue I've seen felt like it was closer to the original trilogy than the sad events that were the prequels. So yeah, feels like it'll be actually telling a story as opposed to being dragged out of actors who just didn't feel like being there that day. What does this have to do with the music? (I hope you're right about John Carpenter doing the score) It ties it in very well with the original trilogy, makes it feel more like a linear story. Which it should. That's one of the things that I felt the prequels never pulled off. They didn't really feel like part of the story. Sort of like "These things happened in the Star Wars Universe, yeah, but don't belong to the main storyline of the movies."

Re: Is this Star Wars nerd-rage worthy?
John Williams is definitely doing the score for VII. I feel very sorry for the guy who has to score a Star Wars movie thing who isn't John Williams. His music is as much a part of the Star Wars legacy as any character or actor.
When I was young I didn't think twice about the music. It must have been "just" twenty or so years ago; I'm watching A New Hope for the umpbillionteeth time and even though there's not much of anything that isn't already seared into my memory, Luke is looking out over the desert watching the suns set and the music swells. It's not a gut wrenching scene or anything but it was that moment in time when it hit me just how impactful not just the music, but John Williams' music was to that movie and to me through my youth. Just about every genre movie that I loved as a little bort was scored by him. To a lesser extent Jaws, but Star Wars and Superman and Indiana Jones and ET.
Original composition aside, (main title, Imperial March mainly), my favorite Star Wars piece was Across the Stars - the secondary theme for Attack of the Clones and the thematic cue for Anakin and Padme. In the five and a half minutes of orchestra it tells their story far better than all three movies combined. Did I say this already? I have somewhere. I bought the album before seeing the movie and immediately adored that piece. The movie(s) fell so far short of how the music made me feel, like, completely opposite of the score for the original trilogy.
And here's why you can't help but love John Williams: Hidden within Across the Stars are bits of the Imperial March.
And and also, as long as I'm talking about John Williams, I have to remind you of this medley he put together for the Oscars.
I would love to find a CD quality copy of that.
