I suppose this belongs here:

The Dominant Life Form in the Cosmos Is Probably Superintelligent Robots | Motherboard

It's not very well written and there is some woo stuff about consciousness - but the basic idea is that if we do ever contact aliens from outer space, then those aliens are much more likely to be intelligent robots then they are biological beings.

Which makes you wonder what all this 'search for an Earth-like planet with water' is all about - presumably the robots will just want raw materials and an energy supply - so they might choose to live near stars (for the energy) or asteroid belts (for the raw materials).

Science Re: Ensign Steve waxes philosophical on the Singularity, a thrad by Ensign Steve

Quote:
A team of American and Australian researchers claim they have created algorithms that enable robots to learn operational skills by watching human activities. They "taught" their robot to cook by showing it some YouTube videos.

...

The scientists claim that the AI robot created by the researchers was trained to cook using 88 videos of people cooking found on the web. Once the robot analyzed the videos, it was able to generate the commands it would need to cook food.

Alphabet: the Singularity company | ZDNet

Quote:
In Rainbows End, Vinge draws a picture of a San Diego that's being reshaped by smart devices. Wearable computing and augmented reality adds new layers to the world, while ubiquitous computing hardware is wrapping the world in sensors. Meanwhile, fledgling AIs are interpreting that information, while robots of various shapes and sizes are the tools with which the new, enlivened, world shapes itself.
Vinge, you say? Where have I heard that name before? :chin:

Quote:
Now look at Alphabet. In its own transformation, Google is shaping itself as an incubator for the type of world Vinge imagined. As part of Alphabet, the core Google search and advertising business continues to be the home of a new generation of AIs, building on the machine learning technologies that drive context and relevance in our search results (as well as placing advertising in the most profitable places). At the same time, an again-independent Nest can concentrate on building smart, connected hardware, infusing the world with ubiquitous computing hardware and sensors that sit in the background of our homes.

On a larger scale, robotics company Boston Dynamics and Google's X research labs are now able to concentrate on building autonomous devices without having to worry about search, and there's the option for Alphabet to take Glass and make it a home for a new generation of wearable and augmented reality devices (perhaps in conjunction with Alphabet's investments in other AR businesses). Then there's Alphabet's portfolio of medical technology businesses.

All i can say is that infinite, a point at which a given mathematical object is not defined, but very well behaved, so that we may exist and live in peace.

Robots don't think they count, the last computer's " IF " is neither "0 "or "1 ", when trying to reach the borders of space.
Matter is of this world and life is just not of this world.

Life is the reason that God is not playing peanuckle behind the borders made by scientists with God knows whom !!!

I've been seeing a really big uptick in uninformed but strongly held opinions about AI. It's almost like climate change skepticism, I suspect, in that you hear these scary stories and don't entirely understand how the predictions came about, so you go around looking for someone who sounds authoritative saying it isn't true, and you glom onto that.

A really common one now is some really base-level skepticism, where people think that all warnings about AIs are all delusional conspiracy theories. I guess the media saturation has gotten to the point where people think they need to have an opinion, and skepticism is always a pretty safe bet if you don't understand what you're talking about.

And, of course, in today's uninformed opinion based economy, it's not just information overload overwhelming us, but the need to fabricate opinions on all of that information, and I suspect you see where I'm going here.

That's right: Hot Take Bots in 2016. They'll monitor internet comments for highly respected and popular opinions on a variety of topics, evaluate the personal qualities the different aspects of those opinions convey, and then will create bespoke opinions on novel subjects based on each user's personal branding, including identity politics, social and political perspectives, and the personality traits they wish to convey to others.

Are you suggesting that there will be service bots that real people can subscribe to in order to present opinions quickly?

Or that existing bots will quickly swamp the net with opinions rubbishing any claims about advancing AI?

The former. You subscribe to my Hot Take Bot service, it learns your preferences from your Facebook and other social media comments, then it just takes over and does it for you from then on, while you go out and do real life stuff. Shitting on boats, painting pictures of sidewalks. You know, human stuff that humans do.
