When the grandson came back to visit with his SO, he wanted to go there and show SO. His memories were from back when he was kid in the 90s.
It was horrible. They had nothing but their traditionally bad Messican cuisine, and a out of tune Mariachi "band".

I tried to tell him that those childhood memories are generally best left in the childhood. I think he gets it, now.

Well, ish, sort of.

Individual cops can be found liable for 5% of a judgment or $25K, whichever is less.

It's still better than nothing, but they're still not being held accountable.

They'll just have to do more fake arrests half hour before shift change to rack up the losses in extra overtime.

So what you're saying is that my instinct was correct that if a headline CAPITALISES the power word

Colorado becomes one of the first states in the country to END qualified immunity as part of this historic comprehensive police accountability bill.
... it's going to be a massive exaggeration.

"Watch as this masked official DESTROYS police brutality!"

Any provision for, or loss of immunity from, prison time? loss of their job? barring from any police job (I guess only in the state)?

I'd normally trust the ACLU to know more about this than I do, but I don't get from my reading that it eliminates qualified immunity so much as that it offers an exception to it.

If I knew anyone who knows anything about law stuff, I'd ask them.

Anything short of full accountability is suspect. Though, along with accountability, there must be a reform in the review process. I don't want to see good cops get railroaded because they pissed off some high muckymuck, either.

UPDATE: I made Matlock look at it, and he says that yes, that does end qualified immunity, because of some law things.

Former governor John Hickenlooper, best known nationally for running a failed clown show of a presidential campaign the sole message of which was SOSHALIZZMS BAD, cruised to a 20-point win the Democratic U.S. Senate primary. My candidate, Andrew Romanoff, was a terrific legislator in his days as speaker of the state house of representatives, but hasn't had any success in elections outside safe Democratic districts. :sadcheer:

Hick faces incumbent Republican Cory Gardner in November, who's vying with other bootlicking Trumpster GOP incumbents for the not-so-coveted title of America's Most Vulnerable Senator. During his presidential campaign, Hick was asked repeatedly about whether he'd run for the Senate if he didn't get the presidential nomination. There's abundant footage of Hick saying he doesn't want to be a senator, isn't cut out for it, and wouldn't be any good at it. That, coupled with the fact that the people running Hick's senate campaign are bad at their jobs, means this isn't the mortal lock most Dems seem to believe it is.

Big news out of the wingnutty Congressional District 3, where Lauren "Yosemite Samantha" Boebert crushed incumbent Congressman Scott Tipton in the GOP primary. Dems are excited, as challenger Diane Mitsch Bush made a good showing against Tipton back on 2018. I don't see it. Tipton is a milquetoast dumbass who the wingers in CD-3 voted for because of the R after his name. Boebert is a dyed-in-the-wool RWNJ and will get enthusiastic support from her many spiritual kin. When it's all said and done on November 3, I expect Colorado's House delegation to remain 4-3 Dem.

Our candidate, Sally Boccella, easily won the Dem primary for state Senate District 23. She'd make a superb state senator, but has no realistic chance of success in this very red district. The new state senator for SD-23 will be Barbara Kirkmeyer, a lunatic, who won the GOP primary last night with ease.

Our current state senator, Vicki Marble, is term-limited. Unwilling to detach from the public teat, she took a run at getting the Republican nomination for state HD-49. Thankfully, she got her ass handed to her in the primary.

The Republicans of HD-48 are not as far gone as some might have believed. They gave Tonya Van Beber a 57%-43% victory over Grady Nouis, who actually managed to get himself filmed at a Proud Boys rally yelling "nigger" at black people. The disconcerting part - 43% of GOP voters in HD-48 voted for Grady Nouis, you know, the guy who got filmed at a Proud Boys rally yelling "nigger" at black people.

As red as our state senate district is, our differently configured house district has gone Dem in 6 of the last 7 elections, soon to be 7 of the last 8. Incumbent Dem Matt Gray had no primary opponent, and will be running against Republican Mindy Quiachon in the general election. Don't know who Quiachon is, and couldn't care less.

If those polls showing Biden beating Trump in Colorado by 15+ points hold up, I dunno about CO-3.

There could be a bloodbath for Colorado Republicans if Biden's winning by that much.

My faith in pols is at near 0.

There are a lot of T rumpers out there that probably don't respond to the polls.
Biden needs to bring his 'A' game to Colorado.

At least he showed some wisdom and courage to take ownership of the mistake. And he only closed bars that didn't serve food.
There used to be a law in Colorado that places that served booze had to also serve food - Or some variation on that theme.
When I was drinking, I never drank where they didn't have food.
(of course I weighed 300 lbs before I stopped drinking. But, that's another story.)

This is kind of interesting and somehow a little comforting in a way, like in the sense that this particular type of bullshit isn't new:

Opinion: Denver residents refused to wear masks during 1918 pandemic. What have we learned?

Mask orders aren't going to work, and might even make things worse as people will be intentionally violating them. So we really should just shut back down instead, maybe even harder than last time, so that the shitheads don't have as many indoor public spaces left to 'protest.'

People often forget all the yowling that went on over seat-belt laws back in the 70s and into the 80s.
I confess that I was one of the slow adopters of seat-belts in my early days.
It was not until after I had taken on work as a tow-truck driver, where I witnessed the aftereffects of non-compliance that I began to see the logic in the things.

Though, with masks and CO-19, the imagery is far less self-evident.

I am still surprised by the reactions of acquaintances who claim that masks are smothering them, or are completely ineffective, etc., etc.
Though to their credit, most of them seem to be fairly good about distancing.

Our governor is a Democrat, but with some heavy libertarian leanings. He believes strongly in stuff like childhood vaccination and using masks during the COVID-19 outbreak, but also believes the best way to get compliance is by persuasion. In that respect, he suffers from the same delusion as all followers of the lolbertatian religion, namely that rationality is real.

Yesterday, though, the governor issued a statewide mask-wearing order. Two wingnut county sheriffs have already announced that they won't enforce the order, and state house minority leader/grifter-in-chief Rep. Pat Neville says the guv is on civil-liberties-violating power trip. Also:
