Re: Ingress
I installed this on my phone (which required me to activate google+ on my personal Gmail which I had held off doing up to this point ) and I think I joined the blue team (I don't remember). I haven't been outside with it yet.
Thrilling! I know.

Re: Ingress
I've been a busy little bee buzzing around annoying some of the local resistance
Since the area is all blue and I can't seem to contact anyone from the enlightenment around here all I can do is wait until a portal is below 25% and then attack. So today I managed to take over 2 such portals, destroying 8 links and 5 control fields at the same time. Got loads of AP but level 4 (70,000 points) still seems sooooo far away
Anyway, I've been really enjoying this, even though I'm late to the game and it seems like many early joiners have lost interest (around here at least). Hopefully I'll be able to find someone close by eventually and we can team up to take down some of the larger control fields that are stopping me linking the few portals I've managed to control.

That's a good idea. You might set your com for a 5 or 10k radius and then message enlightenment players who appear in com- when you see a green portal in your area, message the player who set it up and ask them about community support, some players are really good about taking tadpoles out to help them get levels- they can smash and you can field.
I'm surprised Boston doesn't fluctuate more- major cities often have a very high turn-over of portals; but then I guess if it is blue dominated then some stuff may be a lot more stable. Don't get discouraged!

Re: Ingress
What happens also is that if all the players go passive then the portals will cease to be theirs as well, and will go grey. Then you can easily take it over, they will see an offending colour on their screens when they do log on and become more active again. But if the opposing team is already active and just your own is passive then that won't help much. The consolation is that you get 100 AP's just for hacking an enemy portal. You can level up pretty quick with them around.

Re: Ingress
I just had it confirmed that I can avert an attack on a portal of mine if I have the time just then to counter and I have the key to the portal in question. I got an alert that one was under attack and by the time I saw it one resonator was gone, so I just remotely recharged the remaining resonators like mad, occasionally breaking off to recharge myself with a power cube, and back to the portal. The attacker eventually gave up. The portal in question was fortified with a couple of shields which probably also helped.
If it is still up tonight I will stop by and replace my resonator. The smurf scum might just decide to team up on me before that though and attack it with several people...

Aha. Google’s behind Ingress, right? They're trying to drum up support for self-driving cars!

Yeah, I wasn't gonna say nothin', but... Yall are making me happy actually enjoying something we're putting out, even if I had (still have) no idea what the deal is. The only reason I know it's ours is cuz we sell Ingress stickers and coffee mugs and shit in the company store.

Re: Ingress
Been out doing what I can, having fun and getting some good walking done
I've managed to find 4 more portals that were either very low in power or had been neglected and turned grey. This allowed me to take over a little bit of the centre of town and put up some control fields. Breaking enemy control fields and putting up control fields helps level you up quickly. I made it to level 4 much faster than I thought I would
I also managed to make contact with a Level 8 person who is coming this way on Saturday and we're going to meet up and 'smashy-smashy' and he put it

Smash time best time? You're in Boston USA? I know ingress players in Boston. I drove one around all night so he could get unique hacks. It was fun, then we drank beer.

Nah, Boston, UK. That's why I called you guys name stealers, though I didn't do it with the same outrage and indignation that Sou does it
Boston, UK is a smallish market town of about 50,000 people, so no where near as big as Boston, USA.

Re: Ingress
Squian had to go to SF for work this week and went from a high level 4 to a level 6 during his trip. I, on the other hand, remain a level 5 because I haven't had much time to play.

Re: Ingress
I am still at 3
But I had contact with a high-level player leading to semi-reality contact! He/she left me a "care packet" in the form of a capsule with a bunch of stuff. Probably things they wanted rid of to allow picking up other things, but still useful. I have a long weekend coming up, allowing me to play more over the next few days.

omg so lucky! the guy I'm meeting tomorrow said he would bring me a capsule too, which he said is essential. I guess with a capsule you can hold more than one key to a portal, which is good if you're making control fields so you can still charge the portal remotely. Hope he gives me some L4 stuff I can use

Just need that Jarvis virus now...

Re: Ingress
Yes, I was delighted at the capsule, too. Not sure exactly what to do with it, but perhaps put less used stuff and keys in, or to give people stuff.
You can get more than one key for a portal without one, but a portal us unlikely to hand one over if it senses you already have one. My trick has been to drop the key in question, then hack the portal and then pick up your key again. It seem about every other portal or so gives out a key in those circumstances.

Holy crap. Did you get them from portals?
I just gained about 25 000 AP's, went to level 4 and got a badge during a one-hour walk in the bigger town near by. Mainly from taking over portals, linking the lot together and especially control fields.

Apparently it's the weekend and the resistance is out and about
I had taken over 10 portals in town and now they're all blue again. At least it gives me a chance to get some more AP

So I met up with this guy, he's level 9 and he drove an hour just to help me smash some blue. He had something like 150 level 8 XMP's and watching him use them. Holy. Shit. Level 6 portals with shields, turrets, etc... just gone in seconds. I couldn't deploy resonators as fast as he was destroying them!
I could see this game getting pretty addictive.
I can also see all the green we painted getting blown away pretty fast over the next day or two but it was still fun
I think I picked up about 60,000 AP too, so now I'm only about 10,000 away from level 5
That was fun! I wish there was some more resistance nearby.

Re: Ingress
Well there's been a lot of activity last night. You might have noticed that intel and your scanner wasn't working well. Resistance used up all the intel!
https://plus.google.com/+AnneMiles/posts/Myn6RWPvpdY
That's a G+ link. The fun part was that was being publicized before any west Coast fields went up, I know about 6 agents that ran around all night blocking the field from going over the West Coast of the US.
