This is possibly because the people they're attacking are sworn to destroy them by armed force and use it usually by sending suicide bombers into their territory. This isn't the act of the Israeli Government anyway. The big difference is that you can show this stuff unlike in the Arab world.

Where do you even start? 'destroy them'? I think not. Destroy the political system that keeps exactly this kind of thing happening. And when was the last time there was a suicide bombing? Also: collective punishment is a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.

This isn't the act of the Israeli Government anyway.

See, now we throw some different mud and hope something sticks. It's not the government, it's individual soldiers. Except they never get punished. And they can use lethal force now 'legally', even on children from 12 up. So yeah, if they don't punish them, it IS the Israeli gov't.

The big difference is that you can show this stuff unlike in the Arab world.

This is the standard line that comes up in any conversation on Israel now: they are better than 'the Arabs'. Yay, great. Great comparison material. Remember that 'only democracy in the Middle East', 'shining beacon of freedom'? Now it's just 'we are better than the Arabs'. And barely because Israel has 'gag orders' on all kinds of things.

I accept that Israel has a fight on its hands, but events like this demonstrate that the fight is of Israel's choosing. She is not an innocent victim of Islamic terrorism, she's causing it.

If I might put it like this; when British soldiers behaved similarly toward Irish nationalists, that's how "The Troubles" started. Had the British continued in that vein there would still be no peace in Northern Ireland and mainland Britain.

Political conflict is no respecter of borders, and in order for peace to come to Syria, Iraq, Libya, Afganistan, etc. Israel needs to stop engendering Muslim hatred for "The West".

There's a story in Haaretz about a quid pro quo in Bibi's past that, apparently, could legitimately get him unseated. Not a subscriber (though I'm thinking of becoming one), so I can't relate the details. I will laugh so hard if that happens, though.

In any case, this does seem to indicate that Israel's media are somewhat more honest than ours, because at least they seem to care about their leader being involved in a quid pro quo. Meanwhile, ours seem to have the attitude, "Donald Trump may have donated money to a FL attorney general to get charges against his bullshit university dropped? Better post another story on Clinton's email server!" And if this gets Bibi removed from office, it'll probably show their system is less corrupt than ours too, because I can't imagine Trump getting removed from office over something like this. Granted, "more corrupt than Israel's system" is sort of like saying "more of a mass murderer than Son of Sam", but it does reveal the depths to which our country has sunk if that is the case.

Nah, they do remove their leaders over corruption (or mass murder in Sharon's case), but then they go and elect them again. It's not the first time Netanyahu is being investigated. Same with Ehud Olmert btw.

I guess that compares with how our system used to be, then. Alabama Christofascist judge Roy Moore got removed for corruption and got re-elected in spite of it. (Possibly twice; I don't recall for certain.) But I don't see Trump getting removed no matter what he does.
