Re: Music by Members
I really really like this song - Memorize. I think it is Gonzo and company.
attackofthegaze's sounds on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
Now it occurs that I may have a distinct prejudice to like it becuz, well, Gonzo, but OTOH - I think I would be inclined to try to listen for the artist if it played on NPR or whatever. Am I just hearing what I want to hear or is this actually p. good?

haha no no, He is something of a colleague and mentor, though, and just a friend. I just had a long talk with him about the presidents and world religions...
He's actually the guy who created the annual music festival I used to work on and play at... and now he is going to being playing at the festival I am hosting. So very much I am the student and he is the master.

Re: Music by Members
Tell him I like that song a lot. Is that his singing? It's very engaging. I can imagine that song polished up and it would be pop perfect, but it is also very, I don't know what the word is, lyrical?, in the informal manner of that recording. I like the voice. The song flows naturally and has memorable sections. Pretty good, IMO.
Those songs get an A+ for originality. They are really very artful.

someone should tell me if it's any good... or what I'm doing wrong... because I really have no idea how to format/ structure a song.

Re: Music by Members
I really enjoyed the melody in the first section with the beat, it really suited the the theme. I really know nothing of songwriting, especially songs without lyrics.

Re: Music by Members
Are you guys working on some esoteric, avant-garde new genre-ette up there? Serious question, and not intended in any way to express derision nor disapproval. I've been noticing some characteristics of music you've been posting that are not common. The remake of PF's Money, for example.
It has little in common with pop music, as it is currently understood by me, IOW. I was smiling broadly during your new song, but I am admittedly biased.

Re: Music by Members
As far as this song goes, my only really influence musically was Fiona Apple's new album. Any other influences are just ingrained in me and the lyrics were already in my collection of writing.

Re: Music by Members
This is the first official track for a solo project I'm doing called Surefire. I really hope you enjoy it. There are a lot of references being made, so I recommend reading the lyrics as you listen...

Re: Music by Members
Honest assessment - p. cool, needs some work. Seems like a good starting point to work from. Sort of like a rough sketch for a more involved project. Maybe discard some parts, make improvements to other parts, add detail, whatever. Some parts I liked p. good, just need to be buffed up a little. I did read along with the lyrics...
It's hard to make specific suggestions without listening to the same thing at the same time.
I had a convo almost ten years ago with a friend I respect the hell out of, and we both agreed that it seemed like it was time for the younger generation to come up with their own new thing. This is definitely outside the bounds of conformity. I think whatever you're calling this may be well worth pursuing.
PS - I'm basically just an unsophisticated consumer of music, and p. ignorant on music knowledge in the formal sense.

Re: Music by Members
So dug out the bass and learned the bass line from an easy twenty year old rock song. Tried to sing, but it turns out singing and playing at the same time is srsly fkg hard.
Any hints and tips, or is it just one of those things you either can or can not do? Not so oddly enough, I never really tried it before. Not that I recall, anyways.

Re: Music by Members
I cannot play bass and sing at the same time. Nor can I dance and sing at the same time. It has to be something you can learn, if Geddy Lee can do it...

Most of them are on an autoharp, drums, and some keyboard. Just started playing with synths again.
