So. Turns out I'm allergic to eggs. I mean - fairly highly allergic, they're getting me an epi pen and stuff. Not allergic to a degree that will kill me, the air hole is not involved, just the pie hole, but having your stomach clamp itself shutter than fort knox for hours on end is more than slightly annoying.

I can't eat very much because of a surgical procedure.

And it's 75 pounds lost now. Just another 85 to go.

Pics from King Crimson rehearsals in Seattle, where their tour begins on Sunday. A guy from work and I have tickets for the 6/24 show in Denver.

Holy shit, they're playing the Greek on the 21st. I'm going to this one if I hafta go by my own damned self, and I guess I'm paying the $93/ea (the alleged "$75" price) for the non-crappy seats. Stupid brother loves him some KC, but his Stepford-but-sorta-in-reverse wife won't let him go.

I've only seen them once, but it was at the friggin' Warfield. Great sound, great show (Thrak tour), even a great opening band -- some of Fripp's top students from the League of Crafty Guitars. The Greek also has a great sound, esp. for an outdoor venue. Seen at least 5 shows there, I think? It is Berkeley, after all -- what happens in Berkeley stays ... surreal ... what was I talking about?

We spent more than than that to get right up close. The only people who'll be closer are the ones who bought the $350+ VIP packages.

This'll be a dream come true for me. The Fripp-Wetton-Bruford-Cross iteration once played a show at a venue like five miles from where I was living, but I was a clueless dumbass kid who had no idea about KC or their awesomeness. Long about 1980, I had tickets to see League of Gentlemen (featuring Fripp and bassist Sara Lee, later of B-52s and Indigo Girls fame), but a couple of nights before I got drunk, injured myself and was flat on my back come showtime.

This lineup looks astounding: Fripp, Tony Levin and Mel Collins with Jakko Jakszyk and four (:faint:) drummers.

Weeeeellll, I'm an idiot. L.A., it turns out, has a Greek Theater too. That's where they'll be on the 21st. They're playing the Fox in Oakland, for 2 sold out nights. So I got tix to see them down in friggin Sonoma. I will not be denied my Elephant Talk.

ETA: I may end up taking the Li'l Puppet to the show, if the wife isn't back from Mezzico by then - and it's looking like she won't. So my 13-year-old, whose idea of a great concert is Panic! At The Disco, will get to see the triumphant return of Mel Collins to the fold, and absolutely won't give a shit.

As if I weren't already insane enough with anticipation, I had to go and look at the setlist from the first show.

Wow. Yeah, the brother said he saw a video of the Starless performance, and advised me not to see it before the show. Which, btw, is this Thursday. :eager:

So yeah, I said Sonoma but I meant Saratoga. Santa Cruz mountains, not the Napa Valley. I knew where I was going, honest. But like I said, idiot. And the Mountain Winery is waaaaay the hell up a narrow mountain road, so I guess you really have to want to get there. But I absolutely did. Oakland sold out, but this place didn't; there were about 500 of us up there, not filling the amphitheater, but that made for an intimate show.

The Li'l Puppet actually enjoyed the show. Her fave number was Pictures of a City, although the drums were enough to amaze pretty much anyone.

Spoiler alert: they've actually moved one of the drummers (Bill) to keyboards, so there are "only" 3 drummers. But holy damn, it couldn't be better than it was. Watch Gavin Harrison, the young guy. I swear he's Neil Peart reincarnated, and the dude's not even dead.

I went to my college 40th class reunion the first weekend in June. I am going to my High School 45th class reunion the last weekend in June. I go the college reunion every 5 years, so no big shocks there, as a rule. However, this will be my first H.S. reunion since the 10th. I am afraid there are going to be a lot of unrecognizable old people there. Also, very few, if any, of the crew I ran with will be there. So, that will be kind of sad.

That one dates all the way back In the Wake of Poseidon, which means the Li'l Puppet is Old School at a very tender age, which in turn means y'all's parenting skills are without equal.

What's up with me is we are hemorrhaging money, but on good stuff.

We are now the proud parents of a 1970 Camaro, name of Chandra. She's black with red racing stripes, and she has Z28 badges even tho she's not a Z28. I'll let bey list out the rest of the specs cuz I don't care enough to, but they are good.

We just got back from another Vegas trip, it was a little bit unplanned (and a lot bit unbudgeted) and I regret nothing! Our friend is getting married in Portland in September and it was his bachelor party. He's doesn't drink, so it wasn't very debauched, we went there specifically for the Magic the Gathering Grand Prix and played in a couple events. Totally fun. :cheerful: :cheerful: Also we shot some guns at the range and we saw Roger Waters in concert.

Tonight we're going to see Tool and I just found out that The Crystal Method is opening. My 90s self would cream her jeans right know if she knew, and in fact I did when I found out.

Saturday is my 40th birthday, which is partly how I'm justifying all the cash outlay (or at least rationalizing it after the fact so I don't die of anxiety). We're going to ID10T festival this weekend and celebrate that. It's literally across the street from my work, so we can park there and raid the kitchens and stuff, it's gonna be awesome.

Yeah, I had the CD in the car, so we listened to it during the loooong wait to get out of the lot and down the mountain, single file. Or rather, WE listened to it until the end of Pictures, and she said, "that's cool, Dad," and proceeded to insert her earbuds. I then listened to the rest of the album, all the way through the end with the weird-assed take on Mars, the Bringer of War and then "Peace ... An End," which I haven't done since I was a teen. I'd forgotten that the first half of that extended piece is a jam on "Cat Food." Anyway, she's not some retro freak or something; she just humored Dad and had a good time anyway.

Oh yeah ...

Didn't know it until recently, but Tony Levin has been posting pics on his website of concert venues he plays for over twenty years. That venue of yours looks awesome.

Can't even begin to describe how much I'm looking forward to this. I goddamn jolly well know you'd never make comparisons with The Professor lightly, so I'm extra looking forward to watching Harrison (who I think is the baby of the band at age 55 or so).

My dad died last year. He left me half his farm (if his wife sells it) she wants to sell it and she wants my half as well. She told me last week if I didn't give her all of it, she'd burn everything my dad left behind rather than let me have anything. Pretty sure she was going to find a reason to do that anyway. Also she's the trustee. This is going to be a fun year of talking to estate lawyers.

This weekend, I went to Portland to go see a show. We Hate Movies is a podcast based in New York, and this was their only West Coast show. My sister lives in Portland, so the kids spent the night with their cousin, and Mrs. Reasons and I went to the show.

I enjoyed the shows quite a bit, but the trip down was more taxing than anticipated, and I barely made it through both shows fully awake, especially after a double of bourbon before the second show. I would have loved to stay and introduce myself to other fans and the host, but I couldn't do it. I was so tired by the end of the night, I forgot to lock the RV - good thing we had the dogs with us.
