I don't see anything wrong with this, the Morouns are clearly within their right to spread their own views (thou more widely due to their wealth). And if any people in Detroit actually cared about their economic welfare they would bother to do some research on their own initiative as oppose to listening to paid ads.
The state is doing what it should be, which is listening to the concerns of it's citizens. I have reservations that the technocrats didn't put forth their view but at the end of the day it's the citizens who are against it.
The alternate assumption is that people are sheep who need to be led, presumably by a state that knows better.

I only recently learned that the Gordy Howe Bridge is under construction, and that reminded me of this old thread. The long and short of it is that the ballot proposal and all of Matty Moroun's legal challenges failed (not unlike his heart in 2020), and construction of the new bridge started in 2018 with a target opening date of 2025.
