I should really, really hate this song. I should hate everything about it, from the way it's recorded to the "I'm so non-materialistic I wrote a whole song about how cool I am because of it" lyrics.
But goddamnit, the vocals are just so friggin' gorgeous.
Oh, the video is kinda dumb, too. I just now saw it for the first time.

Dolly Parton's "Jolene" slowed down by about 25%.

They really are. I should hate it too, if only because I actually looked up the video on Vevo just out of curiosity because Vanessa Hudgens mentioned Lorde to Jimmy Fallon.

They forge a blade,
And when there's one they're bound to divide it,
Right in two.
Right in two.
Monkey, killing monkey, killing monkey

Silly monkeys give them thumbs,
They make a club
And beat their brother... down.
How they survived so misguided is a mystery.
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability

Listening to a lot of Starfucker right now because I'm going to see them in a couple of weeks. Deerhunter as well - going to see them (finally!) the week after - got the tickets for that show months ago.

I dig that song. We actually had a dispute at home over whether or not it is a good song, but she likes that stupid Robin Thicke song, so what does she know?

Oh, and as far as what I am actually listening to, the new Neko Case came out last week, and it is awesome.

They've really grown up since than, the younger boy is now taller than the older boy and the girl.

I was in a bell choir once, but it was never like these kids changing tubes so quickly to get the next note. We had a lot more people and only 2 - 4 bells each.

I just learned that Lorde is a 16 yr. old Kiwi, elevating that song to holy crap.

Re: One of those 'Wat'cha Listenin' To?' threads.
That reminds me of an unscratched musical itch I've had for years. I was at an assembly once where the entertainment played some very lively chamber music. I enjoyed it immensely, but haven't really heard anything very similar since then. I think I remember that it was earlier then Bach and all those sorts of composers, but not exactly sure. More of a folk or minstrel type thing than classical or romantic. Baroque, maybe? Whatever, sort of tail end of the middle ages is what I thought at the time. If anyone knows of any early, sort of upbeat chamber music, turn me on to it, plz!

Re: One of those 'Wat'cha Listenin' To?' threads.
Maybe Corelli? He was around before Bach - but only by thirty years or so. And I suppose his music was 'classical', not folk or minstrel.
His La Follia is a mixture of slow and fast. The first really fast part starts about 1:30 into this version - but then it alternates slow and fast throughout. Maybe some of his other works are more upbeat throughout though.
If you fancy a bit of modernized baroque you could try this (from 1975).
If you should happen to like that, be aware that most Gentle Giant stuff is different, and takes a few listens before you start to appreciate it. I would start with Octopus.

Re: One of those 'Wat'cha Listenin' To?' threads.
That second selection put me very much in mind of what I'm looking for! Heavier on the woodwinds, lighter on the strings than the other songs here, is what I think I remember.
