Yeah, thanks. He's actually been in a better mood lately (FIL, that is).
Yeah, yeah, I'm gettin' to the pics. Don't rush me. School is winding down and our robot is in some state of unreadiness which I was unaware of before Monday's competition. Well, we can still get a good grade but we're not going to either the state competition and thus, no nationals either.

Thanks everybody. It is very good to be home again. It was one of the more trying trips I taken in a long while. Even worse in some respects than some of the TDYs I went on while still active duty.

I was only nearby. In one of the more westernized Arab countries but still strange and stupidly hot for April. Pretty soon it'll get up around 130 and high humidity. I'm going to try to avoid going again until winter time.

Re: Member News Discussion
Thanks, Liv! I read a book on my trip that I think you might like (actually, I read several great books as there was much boredom). It is by Robert Silverberg who wrote the Majipoor books years ago that I remembered liking. It is a 'what if' type of book that collects stories of through history from the perspective of 'what if the Roman Empire never fell?':
Roma Eterna
I guess he's been writing these short stories for a while and several were collected into this novel a few years ago. I don't know if it's up your alley or not. Actually, the best novel I read on this trip (and one of the best in the last several years) was:
'The Traveler' by John Twelve Hawks -- Highly Recommended!!

Re: Member News Discussion
Not sure that's how I'd put it. Here's my take on what happened:
(30 hours of travel) (x 3 weeks) (30 hours of travel)
Add to that having to walk through the gravel/sand to the toilets/showers (aargh!, why did I keep having to pee after only a few hours of sleep!). My next trip is to Crete and that should do it for that long-ish trips for the year. My mantra was 'going to Crete next, going to Crete next, ...'.

Re: Member News Discussion
I might have to revisit some of his older books, Crumb. I also grabbed Ken Macleod's 'Learning the World' which, though it had a cheesy-ish cover, was surprisingly good. So good, in fact that I'm going to search out some of his other novels. I also forgot that I owned Ehrman's 'Misquoting Jesus' and bought it again at the airport. At least this time, I read it. I might have to re-read Wilson's book on Paul as I learned some things I didn't know. Hmm... at this point, I might want to move this discussion to the A&L forum. Actually, I'm supposed to be cleaning the 'junk' room so maybe tomorrow.

OK, quickly, the best book I read was actually a re-read of Moore and Gibbon's:

Yes, those tees would make a handsome wrapping for the live scorpions.
