Recommend me blender/mixer things. Also plz feel sorry for me.
Yesterday, right as I was starting to make an elaborate birthday cake, the motor on this guy crapped out.
I've had that thing for probably 20 years, I use it all the time, and it's extinct. There don't appear to even be any comparable products available.
The only two things I use on it are the immersion blender and the wire beaters. I don't care about the chopping or the whisk or anything like that. I have a very small kitchen and really don't have the space for a regular mixer and I'm not even crazy about the size of a hand mixer. I use the mixer pretty infrequently.
What do I do? Do I just get a new immersion blender and--UGH--a hand cranked mixer or something? I hate hand cranked mixers, but I really can't justify the cost or real estate to get an electric one unless it does something else. Does anyone have some kind of thing that both mixes and blends that they like?
Also, know what else fucked off? My fucking CAN OPENER. Just, you know, my regular manual can opener. It's off kilter or something somehow, so that I had to fiddle with it a whole bunch just to get it positioned just right. And the time is coming that no amount of fiddling will make it work. But what made it worse is that I just refurbished it. The handles had been attacked by some vicious pit bulls, so I wrapped them in that bonding plumbers' tape like a couple weeks ago or something. So it's not just a lousy $10 can opener, see. It's a lousy $10 can opener plus the sunk costs (monetary and emotional) of my refurbishing, and now I have to send it to ChuckF for repair.

I don't have any solution, but I certainly admire the problem.

A real can opener:
I was like 25 before I found out that pansy-ass can openers with movable bits and handles and shit even existed when visiting the Bastion of Decadent Western Lethargy and Unnecessary Consumerism, IKEA.
As for blender - no idea, I use whisks attached to my kids' muscly arms, which is why I had kids.

Flea market for replacement blenders. The places are rife with blenders.

While that surprised metal toucan has its charms, that can opener would be embedded in my eyeball or something pretty much the minute it came in the door.
I think my grandparents had something like that, though. They were born in the 1910s, lived on a farm, and they pressed their clothes with one of those cast iron irons you heat up on the stove.

Re: Recommend me blender/mixer things. Also plz feel sorry for me.
I also got really bad cherry and chocolate stains on not one but TWO DIFFERENT SHIRTS, I will have you know. And this is the sympathy I get! Broken appliances, stained shirts, and now mockery.
Mostly I use the immersion blender to emulsify things. I do that a lot. So I need a decent immersion blender for that, and I do not want it to be some giant cumbersome attachment to a hand mixer or anything like that.
I have a blender blender, like with a carafe. I don't like using it much, but I keep it around for things like hummus or smoothies or whatever. I had to whip cream for the cake with it yesterday after my thing broke, and it suuuuuuucked for that. Plus, it's just kind of big and ugly and weird, and I don't like having to haul it out.
Maybe I'll just live with not having a mixer, or just get an eggbeater.
Poor me.

You could hook them up to a bicycle, make a whole exercise/cooking contraption out of it.

Man, how hard is it to Google "stick blender with attachments"? This was the first result, from Cuisinart. Kitchenaid has a bunch of different options in various price ranges. Braun has them, too, but they're descriptions looked pretensions so I didn't check any prices.

Re: Recommend me blender/mixer things. Also plz feel sorry for me.
Of course I searched for that, but they have all the attachments except these, which is what I was looking for.
I could find a hand mixer with an immersion blender attachment, but not the other way around.
Anyway, I went ahead and bought this immersion blender without attachments, and will leave open the possibility of getting a newer model eggbeater if that becomes too much of an issue. They're readily available in stores all over the place, so I should just be able to run out and get one if I have some big emergency.

Ah, I had assumed the whisk was what you want. My bad.
