In the UK, it's even simpler - hand guns are banned completely. You are allowed muzzle-loaded single shot hand guns (like antique duelling pistols) but that's it.
Even our Olympic hand gun teams have to go abroad to train. There was a special exemption zone set up here to allow a competition to take place, but just for the duration of the London Olympics.
No one is allowed to own a hand gun anywhere in the UK; only the police and military are allowed to carry or fire them.
Rifles and shot guns are allowed but are heavily regulated. Automatic weapons are banned.

Morons were in abundance at Texas Stadium after the Dallas Cowboys 30-6 loss to the New England Patriots. A fight broke out, a gun was pulled, and the morons egged the shooter to shoot the victim. Could have dropped a small nuke on the stadium right then and saved us all a lot of trouble in the future.
