Also, I think many progressives/liberals would share some of majority views expressed in the poll, I know I do. I don't think it was skewed Libertarian as much as they interpreted.

The poll shows that people with very high intelligence have a strong preference for minimal restrictions on such activities as gambling (56%), prostitution (60%), pornography (77%), and use of alcohol (66%), tobacco (66%), and marijuana (71%).

The current income tax was ranked last among five methods of taxation. A national sales tax was ranked first, followed by a flat tax, a value-added tax, and a simplified version of the present tax system.

Respondents expressed a desire for minimum subsidies in most commercial and personal areas

A public health care system that provides for the poor and the elderly was favored by a majority ranging from 67% to 74%, and doctor-assisted suicide was found acceptable by 76% of the respondents. An overwhelming 95% agreed that abortion should be legally available, with 49% opposing government restrictions of any kind.

They're not representative samples of intelligent people. They're samples of intelligent people who join special intelligent people clubs.

Maybe because they genuinely can't find intellectual peers in their daily life or among their old friends, or because those intellectual peers don't befriend them, or because they want to feel special and superior, or some combination of that.

Either way, the sample is skewed.

This sounds pretty much like the Netherlands to be honest, almost all of it. We have a high value-added tax, which btw is very bad for small businesses and probably for business in general.

I was once offered an application to MENSA, and easily passed the test. But I refused to join, on the grounds that I had no desire to join a group whose sole raison d'être seems to be brag about how smart its members are. I've got better things to do with my time.

Back in the day, it was considered almost cheating to troll the Mensa newsgroups because they were such low hanging fruit.

Granted, they didn't verify membership or anything, but it did select for people who identified with Mensa, and dadgummed if those people weren't so insecure and defensive that you'd actually feel sorry for them. They'd just get SO MAD at people just for being stupid that they wouldn't notice how implausible the things you were saying were.

Seems like the first website (Christopher Cantwell) wanted so badly to claim this group of (allegedly) super smart people for his own political tribe, that he didn't check very carefully what their voting positions were.

Reminds me of the way that modern libertarians stretch every miniscule connection to imply that everyone from Ben Franklin to Albert Einstein was really, secretly, a libertarian in their heart - even if they didn't realize it themselves.
