Took my 16 year old son out yesterday looking for his first job.
He's not happy, but he is still going to work soon.

I'm committed to finding my 16 year old a job...
He's going to work doing something...whether it be making pizza's at the local Domino's or dragging shopping carts in at the local Walmart, but soon, yes, he will have a job.

Re: Go to work!
More cute toddler stories! (I don't want to hear about lazy teenagers, thank you. That experience was just a little too recent.)

Well, if you've got all day Everything he does is so damned cute...and that's not just my bias I am sure.
Here is one recent thing that has me scratching my head, and wondering "Is he imaginative or mentally ill"...he'll drop something, or bump into something, then touch the bumped into or dropped onto surface then touch the item. For example he dropped a cup on the floor, when he picked it up he lightly touched the floor, then touched the cup...as if part of the cup was on the floor and he put it back! It's done automatically, not with deliberate thought that I can see.
I have asked him why he did it immediately upon seeing it, but so far he doesn't seem to have an answer that makes sense to me.
We have a game we play with him where we "take" each others noses, ears, mouths, knees etc. and switch them with our own, or throw them to the ceiling and have to lasso them down with our imaginary ropes etc. and he takes it seriously sometimes...keeping track and yelling "Give me back my nose" if we've not done so to "end" the game...I think this is an extension of that, but I am not quite sure.
Here he is after helping make cupcakes

Re: Go to work!
Sounds like he's an inquisitive boy. Don't have any answers for the touching thing, but I'm pretty confident it makes sense to him and he's learning something by doing it.
It's amazing to watch them learn and then, in turn, learn something from them.
For example, my daughter often reminds me, while I'm driving:
"Daddy, don't get mad. They are just trying to get home, like you."
Oh yeah, a five-year old backseat driver. Who could ask for more?

Oh man, that kind of thing just rips my guts out. So simple and so true yet we have to be reminded by little crazy people.

I did this when I was a little kid, and still had a very strong urge to up until a few years ago.

Really? Is it a standalone urge or part of a larger set of compulsions?

Re: Go to work!
So, then, here: Caligukid was about 2, and in an effort to not hear "NO!" all the time, I tried to teach him "No, thank you." Everything's fine, and he's refusing juice or whatever very politely, "No, thank you". Then comes the fit de la fits- the screaming, the kicking, the picture-taking (so as to show him what he looks like), and eventually the carrying him to his room- on the way thereto, he's screaming- "NO THANK YOU!! NO THANK YOU!!!!!"
More recently- I said "Son, just give me few minutes before bed- get dressed for bed, please, and I'll be in in a minute." So....
His idea of proper nighttime attire... Roller skates, a diaper, and a Dungeons & Dragons zippered envelope from Comiccon on his head.

Hmm...I can't think of any similar compulsions that I had.

What's wrong with his choice of attire?
I mean, what would you do? Wear the zippered envelope around your butt?
Now, that would be weird.

Re: Go to work!
He is four. AND A HALF. The pic is from about a year ago.
(It'll also, given some of our semi regular weirdoes, be taken down by night's end.)

My 16 year old did that yesterday. First this trucker cuts me off on the interstate and I swing into the other lane to avoid crashing into said trucker, then this dick head starts flashing his lights roaring all up on my ass and shit, like, I should crash into the trucker just to AVOID inconveniencing him. After getting back into the right lane safely, I immediately gave the "finger" to whoever was driving the SUV and started cursing him/her? profusely. My oldest son was like,,,dad, that's only gonna make things worse you know? Amazing how kids view the world.
I know, I know, bad-mean-daddy...but I mean, hell! The fucker needed to be taught some manners!

Re: Go to work!
Caligukid always tells me I'm going too fast. "How fast are we going?"
"Fourty miles an hour."
"You should slow down, that's too fast."
