I have yet to see an episode of Buffy or Angel. I liked Firefly a lot though (mostly for the dialog), and found Dollhouse intriguing on several layers (also mostly the dialog) while also being all "we get it after a dozen episodes, they're sex slaves, move on!". I hope to see more stuff like Firefly and Whedon can do that now because he can say "I am Blockbuster Man!"

I liked the Iron Man movies because Tony Stark says funny smartass shit and RDJr. can deliver funny smartass shit like nobody's business. I liked Black Widow in Avengers because she said funny smartass shit and kicked ass. I like good quirky dialog, even in movies where the action and FX are the main draw. Kevin Smith writes funny quirky smartass dialog. So, he could maybe do it.
One thing that they skip over is that in Firefly, the Blue Sun Corp if it is a later incarnation of Watchers/Initiative/Facility etc., then creating River would have been an attempt to create another Chosen One. In Buffy, we know that there was this patriarchal group that created the Slayer to battle evil, one that they desperately tried to control. River would have been another attempt to do this, just using newer technology. It also works with Dollhouse.

I been watching all the serieses in order. I just got to You're Welcome (Angel S5E12) and just watched it three times in a row - and I think I could probably watch it at least a couple more times before it sinks in. The importance and significance of it is multifold: Superficially, it was the 100th episode of Angel. Charisma Carpenter makes her first conscious appearance as Cordelia Chase in season 5 and also her last appearance (not in a flashback). It was a big ol bittersweet sorbet to all the crap that happened in and because of the nonsense in season 4. Her presence in this episode was, well, so beautifully charimatic and welcome and needed. Plus it's pretty much the only and last high point before all shit breaks out by episode 15.
Yeah, so. This blog by Joss' ex-wife definitely takes him down a few pegs in my estimation. I still believe his work has advanced the cause of feminism though. I don't like the thesis that his being a hypocrite somehow devalues that impact. I guess what I'm saying is I've lost respect for him but I still think he has done a lot of good.
