I'll take that bet. I think that, by the time they're forced by events to accept climate change, gay marriage and abortion will be less valuable as political distractions than they are now. My money is on environmental regulation getting the blame. Much like the Community Reinvestment Act and the existence of Fannie and Freddie magically compelled banks to make irresponsible loans in the early 2000's, they'll pick some specific set of environmental regulations and argue that they forced private industry to pollute.

except that the libertarian wing of the republican party will take control of the entire party when the crazy social conservatives die since the young are more and more libertarians(even minorities like blacks and hispancis are less social conservative and more economic conservative)
