I checked the regulations, there is no minimum age. Children under 16 years old need only have taken and passed an approved Hunter Safety course and be accompanied by an adult 18 or older. Those under 16 don't even need to have a license, only a permit where required. There is even a special three-day youth hunting season for anterless deer. They still must be accompanied by an adult, who may not gun hunt, but is allowed to archery hunt.

Mad Dog of the Underworld

Escaped murderer Wilbur Underhill eluded capture for almost six months after his Kansas State Prison escape, a period during which he killed three people and robbed nine banks and married another bank robber's sister. It was that marriage that proved to be his undoing. He got married in Coalgate, Oklahoma to Hazel Jarrett Hudson using his real name and gave an Oklahoma City address for the marriage license to be sent to. Police put the address under surveillance, followed Wilbur to a Shawnee apartment and arrested him after a 200 round shootout, Wilbur firing about 80 rounds from his automatic pistols, then dragging himself 16 blocks before capture. Wilbur's wiry body took 13 slugs to his body before giving it up for good on December 30, 1933.

Wilbur originally went to prison to begin with for robbing a local drug store on Christmas night in 1926, shooting the clerk when he yelled for help. Then, awaiting trial, he escaped Okmulgee County jail, killing an Ottawa County deputy sheriff while free. Wilbur was sentenced to life for the Okmulgee murder, but escaped in July 1931, killing a Wichita, Kansas police officer, drawing a life sentence there. There he teamed up with Harvey Bailey, who himself had been Public Enemy #1 at one time, and 10 others in an escape plan. They kidnapped the warden and made their escape. Bailey later ditched Wilbur Underhill saying that he was afraid of Wilbur's conduct.

Harvey BaileyHe always wanted to kill someone. We'd drive through some town and every time he saw a cop he wanted to kill him. When he bought gasoline, he'd get mad and want to kill the man instead of paying him.

Mad Dog, indeed.

A NASCAR race car will bear this logo throughout 2007.

Edmond, Oklahoma resident, Executive President of Keith Coleman RacingWe look forward to highlighting Oklahoma’s Centennial at the national level throughout the race season. I encourage everyone in Oklahoma to watch us on ESPN2 each week and to support the No. 23 racing team.

The Oklahoma Centennial Commission is sponsoring the race team throughout the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series. Smith was NASCAR's manager of operations for the competition department. That's where he met up with Keith Coleman, Busch Series car owner. Coleman Racing is in its fourth year in the NASCAR series. Driver Brad Keselowski is competing for Rookie of the Year honors.

Keith ColemanI think we’ve got a great opportunity for the NASCAR fans, the entire state of Oklahoma to be able to bring tourism to the state.

Normally, a pair of bald eagles getting shot in Oklahoma would be enough to make this thread, but a man caught masturbating through a hole in the floor of a trailerhouse, a hole big enough for someone to crawl through, is so damn Okie it just had to trump the two dead national symbols.

He says he must have passed out while working on the two holes in the floor of the trailerhouse. She, and a few others, say he was exposing himself and vigorously masturbating in front of them. A jury believed his accusers, convicting him of indecent exposure.

I bet he feels like crawling into a hole now.

Porking while parked in the park will get you time in the pokey.

Rodney and Danielle were caught by Chickasha police bumping nasties in Rodney's dad's Lincoln at 3:00 AM in the city park. No, they're not teenagers out past curfew, they're 34 and 29 respectively. Due to one open beer can and the smell of that intoxicating brew (unless it was 3.2%, which is not technically an alcoholic beverage according to Oklahoma law) the partially clad couple were charged with public intoxication, public nudity, and trespassing and got to spend the night in jail. The Lincoln was released to Rodney's dad.

It appears to me that officers Guinn and Spivy have their nightsticks up their asses.

Beer keg explosion rocks Adair, Oklahoma.

Police Chief McKeeThe intention was to put the keg on the fire and watch the beer spew out. There’s supposed to be a pop-off valve but they evidently decided it wasn’t going to blow. Well, they went inside about three minutes too early.

The resulting explosion sent firebrick flying for four blocks, went through a four inch tree branch like it wasn't there, and broke out windows in at least three houses.

Hey, y'all watch 'is.
*BOOM*
Hot damn!

Deaf man hit by train in Ada, Oklahoma.

The man said "I'm deaf." to rescuers after being knocked some 20 feet by a train, splitting his head open in the process. That's pretty much the story.

I can understand not hearing the train, but how can you not see something that weighs upward of a quarter million pounds? And, if you were deaf, wouldn't you take extra precautions around large moving objects ... like trains?

Author of Oklahoma drunk driving law arrested for DUI

Oklahoma State Representative John Trebilcock was arrested for DUI after being observed driving with no headlights turned on just after the bars closed at 2:00 AM. Officers said he smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes. Trebilcock said he smelled of alcohol because he had just kissed a woman who had been drinking.

Trebilcock was the author of a 2005 law that requires people convicted of a second DUI install an alcohol-detecting ignition interlock in their cars, at their own expense.

Bet if you investigated closer you'd find Trebilcock owns a company that installs those interlocks or took money from one.

I sincerely hope the court orders him to have one installed. My shiftmate from last year had to as part of a plea bargain.

What is the world coming to if you can't go frog gigging at a police standoff in a Boy Scout camp church without getting killed?

The Oklahoma Autobahn

There is a short stretch of wide two-lane highway about a mile long that connects Frankoma Road and Highway 97 locally nicknamed "The Oklahoma Autobahn" because there are no speed limit signs at either end of this road. The downhill stretch going east from Highway 97 is especially conducive to excessive speeds. I have seen police pull people over on this stretch of road, but I bet they could fight it in court if they knew THERE ARE NO SPEED LIMIT SIGNS and there is no specific speed limit law in Oklahoma except for one saying drivers must obey regulatory speed limit signs (the normal rectangular black lettering on white signs). In this case there are none.

Yeehaw!!!

Edited: There is another place nicknamed The Autobahn in Oklahoma. It's only about 7 miles from the other one, in Chandler Park.

Oklahoma Senator Tom "Resign, Alberto." Coburn pays fine.

Coburn fined $33,170 by the Federal Election commission for an illegal personal $30,000 loan to his campaign that he failed to report as required by law.

the articleThe commission found that Coburn’s campaign had accepted contributions that exceeded the legal limit, did not provide information on contributors as required by law, and failed to file proper paperwork on last-minute donations totaling $349,100.

Senator Coburn took "full responsibility" for the reporting mistakes.

Mistakes? More like he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. "I'm only guilty of being caught, your Honor."

Lest one think all Okies are like Senator Coburn, or worse, Senator Inhofe, one Oklahoma man gave his lottery winnings to Habitat for Humanity.

Winning $10,000 was to net $7100 after taxes, a sum easily frittered away on gizmos and gadgets of varied description. That was not for this winner, he donated the after-tax earnings to Habitat for Humanity. The organization which has built over 150 homes in the Tulsa area, primarily for low income residents, was surprised by the donation but will put it to good use.

Wouldn't the donation be tax deductable?

Moving targets:

To combat sex offenders moving into seedy motels along I-44 near the Town West shopping center the city will be putting in a park. With laws stating sex offenders cannot live with a certain distance of a park, they will not be able to live there. Currently, they are not breaking any laws by living exactly where they are.

Years ago, if a minor bought beer for another minor, they ones selling it to them were they only ones that committed a crime. In an effort to fill city coffers with monitary fines, a 19 year old was arrested for providing alcohol to minors, ages 18 and 19.
