I love turtles, but as cute as they are they are also wild animals. I won't post the video here, but if you google for turtles hunting doves be prepared for some horrifying images.
I've also had some encounters with Alligator Snapping Turtles. Big ugly brutes that would gladly bite your arm off.
I remember visiting the San Diego Zoo with my girlfriend when I was in High School. We spent quite a long while watching a couple of enormous Galapagos Tortoises going at it. It was quite relaxing. Talk about "slow hands".

Not exactly the most efficient predators are they?
BTW, is that why they call them turtle doves, as in doves that turtles like to eat?

If you think they are not efficient predators, look up turtle kills bird or turtle kills pigeon. They can move faster than most people realize.
There is also a gruesome video of someone feeding a live mouse to a turtle. The turtle shreds the poor mouse.
That being said... I have a photo of a leopard tortoise on my website. My encounter with him/her was both adorable and screamingly hysterical.
The tortoise was blocking my car and there was no way to go around or back up. I had to get out and pick up a tortoise that was not happy about meeting me. When I picked him/her up he/she started frenetic gyrations of all appendages in such a manor that it looked like it was trying to fly. This sent Sonoma Bear into a fit of giggles for several minutes. He now refers to the incident as The Flying Turtle.
