Has anyone figured out how to block or ignore someone? Jesus Christ some dude has a board called "infected" in the science and nature category and I got all icked the fuck out! I wanted to see animals and shit not open sores on tongues!

Another person has a board called "tiny miracles" and I keep loling at the "miracles". Can't help but think of the ICP song dammit. Maybe she is a Juggalo and therefore thinks pearls and shells are truly miraculous.

Hey livius, did you know there are like dozens and dozens, maybe even hundreds, of pins from your blog? Are you lurking at Pinterest at the very least? Maybe you should add a Pin gadget thingie to the blog

I didn't know there were that many, but I have caught glimpses of them in my referral logs before. I lurked a little this weekend. I don't think I'll sign up any time soon, but I'm definitely looking into plug-ins to make my posts more pin-friendly.

:cheer: for the History Blog!

Sorry, Shea. I don't think there is any way to block someone. I think they will have to do something about that eventually, because trolls will be trolls. People are already pushing the envelop in terms of nudity. Obscenity is forbidden but there is a fine line between art and porn which they haven't figured out yet. I have seen some hilarious cock shots though lately. :giggle: On the open boards though people need more control or they will lose members. members.

I noticed the first weird spammer on there last night as well, promising hair style tips with different celeb pictures but it was all the same stupid zit cream website at every link over and over and over dozens of times. I just had to take note of the name and ignore it.

Now I do vaguely remember someone at :ff: posting about a hack that might work. I think someone was trying to replace someone's user title or name or something at and someone else posted a fire fox add on that will replace one thing with another. I don't remember much about it, but maybe that would work? You could replace all that guy's posts with like a puppy or a donkey or something.

Oh, another thing I just realized. I have been making a bunch of new boards as I go along and see other stuff I want to pin. They make it really easy to just add another one from the pin menu. When you do that though, your board is not categorized. So it won't show up on any of the different topics and no one can see what you post.

Also, other folks can come in and categorize it for you and they might put it somewhere you don't want. Like my goofy vintage photos in history instead of photography.

Since I hadn't done any edits since I joined I had to fix like ten of my boards and it was boring and annoying. Don't be like me.

Your requirement for each post to contain money photos makes it way Pin friendly for history stuff. Not all bloggers worry about that.

Eww! Wash your eyes out with this. (It's just pictures of boats. I would have never believed that I could waste so much time looking at pictures of boats, but they're so peaceful and I love them.)

If I read one more description in which someone exclaims about a "Pop of color" I shall scream. Yes, pictures have color. Things have color. Try to dig a little deeper.

Also what is with the "x, x, x!" construction? I was looking at cupcakes earlier and every post had "cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes!" as a description with different authors. I thought it was a :pinkiepie: reference until I searched for boots. "Boots, boots, boots!" Then "Nails, nails, nails!"

Okay, ladies. Splain me. I try to set the category and description when I create the board, but sometimes I forget. How do I tell which boards in my ever-growing collection of boards already have these without having to click through and edit each one?

You can't, you have to edit each one. ASK ME HOW I KNOW

I also hate that I can sometimes edit/delete my comments on other people's Pins, and sometimes I can't, and I'll be damned if I can figure out the criteria that determines that.

Mashable did a neat infographic on pinterest. I was shocked to see that with 10 million users, they have only 16 employees. So I imagine that the issues we have been having will take time to correct.

Also, Mitt Romney has the most aspirational of house hold tips. I, for one, am going to have to try Triple Baccarat Night sometime soon.

I am embarrassed to admit that I just figured out this morning how to reconcile these two issues I have with Pinterest:

1) What the hell is the point of "like"? Why do we need a function separate from repin? It just seems messy and redundant.
2) Damn, I like that pin enough to want to come back to it, but it's not really something I would want to pin to a board of my own.

You can't blame those start ups for wanting to jump on a good thing. Successful formula is successful. Linterest is absolutely awesome though.

It is pretty stupid though in that all those things are already on Pinterest. Well, except for porn. Hardcore stuff anyway. I have stumbled across a few fetish boards. Actually, given the number of users, the amount of content, and the sixteen employees I am not sure how they expect to handle that for long. Their user base has previously one that would not abuse it, but that is quickly changing. I would hate for them to be exploited, because they don't seem to have the man power to fix it once that starts. It will be interesting to see how it evolves over time with all the media attention. The cootie effect might just buy them some time to put something in place before r/jailbait types find it.

I was totally lolling to see that some one did make a pinterest for men, which I am going to have to check out. The blog on Penistrest that is linked in your article, Bort, is hilarious in that it totally doesn't understand what Pinterest is but addresses why a man's version is needed.

Quote:
You can follow other people on Pinterest, and you can “re-pin” their stuff onto your own board. Getting re-pins is the currency of Pinterest. If your stuff gets pinned enough times (or by the most popular pinners), you’ll make the front page. It’s sort of like a high school popularity contest that way. She who dies with the most re-pins wins.
 Not only is that not pinterest, that is totally reddit. Pinterest's main page is just the most recent pins. But I love how it is so funny when the ladies do it, (even though they don't. Repins don't have currency, it is more of a networking tool) but something men would never do. Silly women with their highschool popularity contests ... o wait ... shi....

Anyhow, there is some  worthy stuff on that blog. The shock that a workbench from their very own site is on there cracked me up. And this is just priceless:

Quote:
So be it. I cede the Pinterests to the lady folk. I appreciate that we’ve got two of our own ladies here at OPC to handle that angle for us. On the few occasions I need to use P’s features (say, for getting some great ideas on wainscoting for the dining room), I’ll have Kim pull up the pictures for me. She’ll be more efficient anyway, and if she stumbles across eight different ways to cross stitch a [whatever someone cross stitches], she won’t mind.
:snicker: Because heaven forbid his delicate manly eyes get afflicted with hairstyles, recipes, or the much terrifying cross stitch. It is enough to give a gentleman the vapors.

Seriously, there are boards for everything. Even in the main categories there are sections for: geeks, cars, motorcylces, sports, fitness, science, tech, photography etc. etc. etc. None of those topics are gendered, it is a free for all. Within those categories is only stuff pinned that is in that topic.

I am seriously impressed by that blogger. It takes real guts to post about a topic that he clearly knows nothing about and is too intimidated to explore for five minutes of research. Because he might have to see cross stitch.
