My first exposure to this was via a guy at the gaming forum where I lurk who wrote up a recap of the pilot as though it were a Let's Play for an RPG. I watched the pilot via Bort's link and it turns out that a lot of stuff I thought he made up for comedic effect is actually in the show.

Actually, while the bloggers are going crazy for this, I wonder at the bit at the end where they point out that the former POTUS has never lost on their program. The questions, unlike other episodes with less important contestants, have two options that can be clearly ruled out. If so Bravo on an excellent Presidential troll NPR!

I'm calling bogus! BOGUS! I've listened to other Not My Job segments for Wait, Wait, and I have to say they didn't even try to make the questions difficult. I was shouting at my computer OATMEAL, WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY? because of the really terribly obvious fake choices.

I guess I am one now too, after watching a few episodes with my daughter. She likes it, and it's a damn sight more enjoyable than a lot of the shows she finds on Netflix. My wife hates the animation style, but I'm trying to bring her around.

Well, I tried. I'm left nonplussed. I think the only thing I admire about MLP genre is the plastic pony makeovers, of which some are very well done and clever. The cartoons have left me meh.

Last night I watched the one Demi linked to and another one I plucked off the YouTubes at random (Rainbow Dash vs. ... the other one in various athletic competitions). Anyway yah, I like this show. It's like the cuteness overload thread for 22 minutes straight. Sometimes it seems like there's just so much cuteness in the world that I can't take it, like my heart's just going to cave in.

I will add that as much as joining the herd threatens my masculinity, it is at least equally disturbing for a cynic like myself to embrace the unbridled (get it?!) positivity of the ponies. So there's that.

Something that I think is very clever is that the writers know full well how cute everything is, and is expected to be, and then break it for hilarious effect. Fluttershy is the most obvious example (you'll see!), but all the pones have character flaws that are not at all cute (although some are very cute).

I'd really suggest watching them in order now you're hooked seebs; some of the episodes with the youngsters have a definite chronology.

And if you're worried about your masculinity, remember there are many other bronies out there!
