Default On Trees and Billboards

Song of the Open Road

I think that I shall never see
A billboard lovely as a tree
Indeed, unless the billboards fall
I'll never see a tree at all.

Proven fact: Cilies and city areas with green spaces experience lower rates of crime.

Pretty easy to explain, since presumably the claim is not that crime is only explained by the presence or lack of green spaces.

Anyway, I'd be interested in seeing the studies about that.

Abandoned buildings and empty lots do not count as green spaces. Detroit doesn't have that many parks, certainly not any prominent ones in downtown or midtown like you have in New York, London or other prominent cities.

I know you live near there, but Detroit has more park space per capita than many other cities, including very green places like Austin, TX and Tulsa, OK, and they've torn down a lot of buildings and abandoned houses, creating community gardens and more park space in some parts of the city. Detroit ranked 28th out of 60 cities on ParkScore.

I was only addressing jerkules post. Detroit is a perfect example of why his statement is incorrect.

I don't really think 28th place is a decent score. However, upon reflection I've realized that I never really think of Belle Isle when I consider things because of where it is. So, yes, Detroit does have an awesome park even if the Emergency Manager gave it to the state.

28th out of 60. That's above average. Detroit is way lower than that when it comes to crime rate.
