No snow in Smallville, Kansas, but it was pretty cold, single digits with a 38 mph wind Tuesday. It's 50 today.

It's a balmy 37 degrees! Quite the turnaround from -25 on Wednesday.

It got up to 54F today, I think, mostly cloudy all day with some misting rain after heavy fog in the morning.

So we were supposed to have a huge massive rain and wind storm that kinda pettered out and it became dry with patchy skies yesterday. So I decided to go for a walk to the store. About half way there it of course starts to rain on me, while not bad I had managed to forget my hat.

Ducked into the hardware store to see if they had Butane (it's apparently both one of their top stolen products and just left out on the shelf, so they are almost always out) and right before I step out it starts raining absolute buckets. The world just kinda stopped for 5 minutes or so as no one in the store wanted to go out and everyone outside had either found shelter or drowned whiled still standing. Once, someone got too near to the door detector, it opened for a split second and everyone got hit by the wind being generated by the down-falling rain. Almost in unison everyone took a step back as if to say, "let's not do that again." Outside the well drained parking lot toad had a good inch of water and for a few minutes become a small river. It's been quite awhile since I've heard rain slam into things so hard you swear it must be part hail, but it wasn't that cold.

My rushed walk home was all quite dry, because now that I'm expecting it, it's time for chirping bird and fluffy clouds.

There was actual snow - not just on sort-of-nearby Mt. Diablo, but right on the little rolling hills by my house. Nothing by Northier or Eastier standards, but I'm close enough to the coast that it never friggin' snows here, period. This morning, my car was coated entirely with what looked like hail that stuck and froze immediately.

It's sunny and 47 F / 8 C now, and nearly all dried out. But apparently this is just the first of several weird post-vortex-disruption systems.

Freezing mist. Fortunately, the ground temperature here is still above freezing so the roads are just wet. The bridges are a bitch though.
