I had never heard of this movie until I saw it in the video store the other night. My girlfriend and I picked it up and damn, is it funny! It has a noir plot but the dialogue is mostly about making fun of Hollywood. Val Kilmer is hilarious as a gay private detective, and Robert Downey Jr. shows both acting range and comedic timing.

I've never seen the movie. But its title is taken from a book of Film Criticism by Pauline Kael. She got the title from a boy in Italy, who barely spoke English. She saw him coming out of the movie theater, as she was going in. "How was the movie," asked Kael.

"Very good. Kiss, kiss! Bang, bang!"
