I'm not sure if there is anyone left around here that is interested in playing games, but if we can get 4 to 8 people (at least 6 would be ideal) then we can try our hand at Decrypto. I think this would be a great forum game. I will send out some PMs and try to round up some of the usual suspects.
Decrypto is a team game where one member of the team tries to get the other members of the team to guess a code based on three public clues. At the same time they don't want to give too much information to the opposing team who will get a chance to get the code right as well based on what they can guess about the other teams code words.
OK, we will kick it off with six. It is a good number.
Here are the randomly determined teams.
Team A
Team B
slimshady
lisarea
ceptimus
Limoncello
Kael
erimir
FIRST order of business is for each team to choose a team name. (I don't want to call you Team A and Team B the whole time.)
In the spoiler are the basic rules of the game. I'm trying to keep them simple so all info may not be here. I will let know what you need to do at each step as we play.
Game Setup
Each team will receive by PM a list of four numbered key words. These will be used for the entire game. You want to keep the other team from figuring these out.
Example key:
Team X - Key
Code
Word
1
Light
2
Foot
3
Solar
4
Plank
Round Steps
Each round a different player from each team (order determined by me) will be the encryptor for the round.
The encryptors will be PMed the code for their team for that round. (Each team has their own code. A code is a three digit number, made up of the digits 1-4.)
The encryptors then will choose in secret three clues for the code based on their team's key. Their goal is to get their team to get the code from their clues without giving the other team too much information about the team's key.
Example: If Team X's code for the round was 231 then the encryptor might pick the clues "walk, power, heavy" (referring to foot, solar, and light, respectively.)
The rules for clues are as follows:
Must relate to meaning of the key word
Can't relate to position spelling, number of letters, etc
Can be any length
Can't contain any of the key words
Both encryptors PM their clues to me.
Once both teams' clues are received I will post the first team's clues in this thread
In future rounds the OTHER team will discuss and guess first to try to score a . This is skipped in round 1.
The team whose clue was posted now will publicly discuss what their code might be and make an official guess. (Remember not to give your key words away!) If the team gets their own clue wrong they score a . This is not good.
Next the other team's clue is posted and steps 6 and 7 are repeated with the teams reversed.
If at the end of the round a team has scored they win! If at the end of a round a team has scored they lose.
I will send out team keys and post the encryptor order once we have team names!
You realise that when you ask us for team names, you're inviting us to come up with the most confusing names possible? So I suggest the following possibilities for Team A.
Oh smilies would be a good idea. If you want you can pick a team smiley or name. I will send out the keys and the code to the first encryptors and we can kick things off with or without official names.
Kael and erimir will be our first encryptors. I will send them round 1 codes and then they should each devise three clues for the code based on their team's key.
I think we should be called something long and lurid, so Cmurb has to type it out a lot. Like "Mother May I Sleep with Danger" or "Lambada: The Forbidden Dance." Or the complete text of Milton's sonnet "I did but prompt the age" because there is no rule against it.
If we want to go with a smiley, the only ones I know how to work are and
