I once spent several precious minutes of my life explaining to some lolbert leaning children that the word neoliberal was already taken and it was not the liberal version of neocon(servative). This caused them to assume that I was unfamiliar with the words 'liberal' and 'conservative,' and to explain that to me. And it caused me to LOL.

Re: Miscellany
I had to explain that the word anarchist had been taken in the 1800s by socialists, before there even were marxists. Hilarity and boredom ensued for half an hour at least.

Just finished the first series of the remake of Battlestar Galactica Star Frak. It's just good enough to keep me watching and bad enough to make me hate it.

Placeholdering this to try to see if I can get some of these. Now I have roof rats, ironically in the basement. And tonight, the pleasure of my first snap trap failing to kill instantly.
Concerned, though that these are those kinds of rats that if taken outside or dropped in the wild, they're in for a slow death due to being evolved/acclimated to living alongside humans.
Godspeed, little guy, I'm glad I was still awake and heard you.
It never gets any easier.
Pest control guy found a probable entry point, though, and will be fixing that up tomorrow along with a more complete perimeter inspection. If at all possible, bar their entry.

Re: Miscellany
As a rat person, I can tell you rats are highly adaptive, which is often why they make great pests. Most rats will be able to survive decently out in the 'wild' (wild in quotes because there's a good chance it will find another home to live in). In the wild is more dangerous than in your house due to things like birds, but it will be able to forage and live just fine.
Even with occasional misses snap traps are so much better than glue or poison that you shouldn't feel too bad, glue traps in particular are sadistically evil.

Oh yes, yes indeed. Brutal. If you click back to TLR's post, glue traps came up for discussion there on the topic of most humane pest control methods.

Steve Reich, "by general acclamation, America's greatest living composer" turned 80 in October. This video of the superb LSO percussionists performing one of his pieces is a good introduction to/reminder of his genius, if you need one.

Re: Miscellany
Does anyone know stuff about Android?
I have a 5th gen Fire tablet I want to put Cyanogenmod on, but the only instructions I can find use Flashfire 0.50, which will not start up on it because of a known bug, and fucking Amazon precludes the only known workaround.
I reverted the OS from 5.3.2 to 5.3.1, which is apparently as far back as you can go without bricking it, then I rooted it and blocked OTA updates. I just can't open the only installation tool that works with it, supposedly.
This model is apparently super brick-prone, so I'm hesitant to just start goofing around to see if I can get something to work. Does anyone know how to just do this manually?
