I have been trying to get a comprehensive list of my past employers from the Social Security Administration for a few years now. The process is to fill out and sign a form, and mail it in with a check, money order, or credit card information. The cost when I started the process was $90, but now it is $100. The form says to give them 120 days (4 months) to process the request.
The first time I tried it I sent a check, and when I didn't get the information within 120 days I called to check the status. After answering many questions and waiting on hold a long time, I was told I would have to wait another 120 days. I did, but still nothing ever came and the check was never cashed.
Some time later I decided to try again, but this time I wrote in my cc information on the form. When I didn't get any results within 120 days I decided to just wait it out. 120 days later (yes, 8 months from when I sent the form in) I received a response claiming that my (valid) cc had been declined. They even returned the form I sent in so I could confirm that I had written the correct cc info on the form.
So now, all these many months later, I have decided to try again. I'm using the same cc information on the chance that its being declined last time was just a fluke, but also because I don't have new checks with my current address on them yet and I don't want it to be refused on that technicality. I suppose I could have used a different cc but that didn't even occur to me until just now.

I didn't need to get gas today, but I was down a firkin and got out of the house early enough that the station wasn't busy. I pulled right up behind a person at the first pump and started getting gas.
If you are not familiar with Costco gas stations, they typically have 2 or 3 pumps in a row, with 3 lanes between them. The center lane is so when one car is done, it can pull out to allow another car to pull in. That's how it should work, unless the pumps are occupied by middle-aged women in yoga pants...
The person in front of me had left before I finished, so a big white SUV drove around me and up to the front pump, only the driver didn't get close enough and was several inches into the center lane. This wouldn't normally be a problem - these lanes are plenty wide, except on the other side a driver in a big white BMW sedan had pulled up and has also was several inches into the center lane.
It was risky to drive past them. These are wide lanes, but they were both well over the line. I could wait for them to finish, but they had only started pumping and each of these cars looked like they needed closer to a kilderkin of fuel. I was really, really tempted to take my chances and see if my car could fit between them - maybe scare these people in big expensive cars with my grubby little one.
They were lucky. The lanes on the other side of the pumps were empty. I backed out and drove through. The worst they got was from me.
firkin and kilderkin sound like they could be profanity, but they're just fucking archaic forms of measurement.

I am very sorry to have missed Sock's legendary double-poast tirade at the top of this page about Steve Hackett's 2022 U.S. tour. I could have come here to bitch about Jon Anderson's 2023 tour not making it west of St. Charles, Missouri or the fact that Hackett's Foxtrot at Fifty tour isn't slated to stop anywhere near me, but Sock has raised the profanity-laced concert tour tirade bar so goddamn high that I could never hope to clear it.

If my concert buddy from work and I end up going to see Gabriel in October - IF - it'll only be because another guy at work was able to pull some strings and get us decent tickets at maybe 1/2 limb apiece instead of the usual 2 limbs. I've been a fan since first hearing the Genesis album Nursery Cryme (holy fuck, over half a century ago!), but god DAMN. If I paid what they're asking for a decent ticket, Lisa would put a 72-hour psychiatric hold on me for posing a danger to myself and/or others.

You guys had me looking into seats for Gabriel at the Little Caesar's Arena in Detroit and I could get center of the ground level for about $250-300. I never go to concerts so I have no idea how reasonable that is. I love Peter Gabriel but I would much rather listen to him in my home.

That's about what they were here- my two seats were $200 total, but floor seats were $250 each. Too much for me!
