Shine could have owned Tokyo when we were there last year. Everyone was staring and smiling at her. People were poking their friends and pointing at her. Plus she spent hours playing a game with two Japanese students in Narita. She would run up and steal their iPods and phones and hats and run off laughing. And the whole terminal was grinning at her.

And we have a winner: Sarah Palin liar of the year
Quote:
Of all the falsehoods and distortions in the political discourse this year, one stood out from the rest.
"Death panels."
The claim set political debate afire when it was made in August, raising issues from the role of government in health care to the bounds of acceptable political discussion. In a nod to the way technology has transformed politics, the statement wasn't made in an interview or a television ad. Sarah Palin posted it on her Facebook page.

Just think of what her acceptance speech will be like!

When I was sitting at the gate in Narita, I was near a family (mom was Vietnamese, dad was white) with two young boys and a chubby baby girl, who would alternate between chewing her foot and waving at people. All the flight attendants and passengers were waving back at her.
She did escape, though - crawling through the narrow benches where I sat, so I scooped her up and handed her back to mommy.

The better question to ask is how many lies it will contain. We should start a betting pool.

You could play the teetotaller version. Have a drink every time she tells the truth.

Thus begins a new 12 step program with zero people returning to drink.

But with the added benefit of having only one step. Twelve fold rise in efficiency!

I have faith that she can.

Palin didn't know there was a South and a North Korea and thought that Saddam Hussein attacked America on 9/11 and couldn't describe who her son was fighting in Iraq. So, naturally, Fox News hired her to do political commentary.

Re: Caribou Barbie is at it again
Does anyone believe that, following having their reputation run into the ground by one moron, the republican party would elect another moron (with better tits and teeth admittedly, ) as their candidate?

I bet somebody last year that she would be a commentator on FOX within 6 months of stepping down from governor. I guess just about everybody did see that coming.

To be fair, all that does make her representative of a non-trivial portion of US citizens.

Indeed, given all the "Bush was a great President" and "Sarah Palin is the greatest politician EVER!" letters I see in the local papers, I daresay she has a frighteningly large fan base. It wouldn't entirely surprise me if she wins the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.
I alternate between thinking that'd be a wonderful thing and that'd be a terrifying thing. After all, it's not exactly unprecedented for the Republicans to nominate someone who's obviously unqualified for the job, is profoundly ignorant, is openly anti-intellectual, and who has a well-earned reputation for being less than scrupulously honest -- and for said boob to become President. (Having friends on the Supreme Court helps, of course.)
A lot of people think that Palin could never win the Presidency. But I distinctly recall hearing the first Presidential Debate during the 2000 election. Bush was inarticulate, completely failed to answer some questions, and flat-out lied (brazenly so) on at least two occasions. After listening to the debate, I thought, "There's no way the American people would let this ignoramous become President."
Which just goes to show how good my political instincts are.
Cheers,
Michael
