Long overdue for this thread.

Pretty sure anyone who watched Colbert last night is suffering like I am this morning.

Re: Earworm
I have a question: How often do you guys get earworms?
Because I get them all the time, to the point that I think I usually have one, and it only just occurred to me that maybe that isn't normal, and that I might need to get my brain removed or something.

Re: Earworm
I am the same way, there is always something running through my brain on a tight loop. Half the time it's not even a song, it's just some random expression, maybe the last thing I said or heard or thought about. I figure it is indeed pathological, and brain removal probably is the only thing to be done about it.

Re: Earworm
All the damn time. My sister says it doesn't happen to her, which is more proof that she's evil. My brain is currently playing, "Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow" because I had the audacity to look at the weather forecast.

Re: Earworm
I get earworms frequently, but they're usually stupid things like the theme from The Smurfs or a Radiohead song.

Oh god the random expressions on a loop. Or worse, the random mispronunciation or overenunciation of an expression. Plunge.

I have, upon occasion, had the word molybdenum stuck in my head for no damn reason. At one point I considered exorcising it by naming a character Molly B. Denim, but I never followed through.

Re: Earworm
I think I might cause earworms around here. I often find that I've been humming, singing or whistling without even realising it*. And it's usually the same thing over and over throughout the day. Then I hear Sou humming it later and I guess maybe I've infected her.
Is it an earworm if you're not really aware it's there making you hum?
*sometimes Sou will tell me, sometimes I'll just suddenly tune into it and realise I'm humming

Re: Earworm
This thread is good for trading in one earworm for another.
Here, I'll just drop off Streisand's "Evergreen" from that old movie and ... no-no, I don't want "Too Many Cooks"!!!

Re: Earworm
OMG, the staying power of "Evergreen". Yesterday I took full advantage of Google Play to listen to Queen's Greatest Hits (twice) and old-time country music--George Jones, the senior Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, etc.--and when I woke up this morning Streisand was still warbling in my ear. Jehoshaphat!

Re: Earworm
Pffffft. I've heard that song maybe three times, but it's stupid and terrible enough that I don't think I've listened to the whole thing, AND I AM NOT GOING TO NOW.
Besides.
They Might Be Giants' starting up dial a song again was an obvious trigger. And I mean not only for me, but I have totally seen tons of people quoting old TMBG songs all over the place, so I believe it to be an epidemic.
So, to illustrate, somebody here said something about Plato's cave, so I got No One Knows My Plan there for a while (But they're like the people chained up in the cave/In the allegory of the people in the cave by the Greek guy).
So that's cool. That's a bitter revenge fantasy song, and those are my favorites.
But TMBG is an earwormable band, and they know it, and also they are fucking evil, so for those who are unaware, near the end of the album Apollo 18, there is a string of these like micro songs. Not even songs, just a series of hooks, many of which are very easily triggered, although I think you're safe unless you listen to them enough times to get embedded, so if you don't know what I mean:
They Might Be Giants - Fingertips - YouTube
So, you know, mildly annoying I guess, but not terrible. That's fine. Some of those are pretty much permanent fixtures when anyone triggers them anyway. I am used to it.
But do you know what? I will tell you what. There are two discrete links in my mind between TMBG and THE RESIDENTS. The attenuated more hook than songs thing is what the entire Residents' Commercial Album even is, plus both bands do songs called Constantinople.
And I am not diagnosing this yet, but I have been known to get Residents earworms, especially for some reason Moisture, which is not even a catchy song. I've had that one for like weeks at a time.
So yeah. Not too worried about no Peanut Butter Jelly Time right about now.
How to spell the beginning of Moisture.

Re: Earworm
We have a blue canary night light we received as a gift from a wonderful person. It used to be really triggering but maybe I've gotten used to it. I need to move it somewhere more visible.
