Congrats, Watser?! This may be a daft question that's covered elsewhere, but what sort of freelance work is it?

I work as a translator English to Dutch and vice versa and as copywriter/editor.
I might expand that to include German to Dutch and German to English, I am seriously considering that now.

Congrats on the job!
It's a great thing to work with something you love.
I love languages; unfortunately I can barely speak English.

Re: Member News Discussion
Howdy folks. Just checking in with an update.
It's been 3 weeks since I had surgery on my neck, and 6 weeks since I had to go to work.
I have one word for you: Atrophy.
I am soooo sick of just sitting and doing nothing physical. I can walk around, but then I'm jammed up the whole next day. My hip swells up. Grrrr.
My neck feels great, even if I haven't looked anywhere but straight ahead for weeks on end. It's weak, though. When I take it off to shower, my neck is real skinny, and I can feel just how weak it is. I mean, really, I've never had to think about holding my head up straight before. LOL.
I have a scar on my neck about 2 inches long, and a V shaped one, maybe 4-5 long on my hip. It's healed enough to where I actually put on a pair of jeans for the first time yesterday.
I have no stamina. I spent a day out Sunday, at my Mom's, and then slept for about 14 hours Monday. Then I went downstate yesterday, and slept 13 hours today. Deep sleep. LOL.
I am already formulating a plan to get my strength and stamina back. As it is right now, though, I'm wearing a hard collar and a Cervi-Stim, which is short for Cervical Stimulator. For four hours a day, it sends electric vibrations through my spine to fuse together my vertabrae and the shims he took from my hip.
On the bright side, the doc says with the shims, I'm 3/8" taller. So, I might have finally reached 6'. LOL.
It's not all negative, though. I have been doing a lot of writing, fooling around with my art stuff, and a lot of exploring, musically. I got that cable installed that has the channels that just play music. It's great. I keep a notepad around, and write down stuff I like, so I can get it later. I dig Tegan and Sara.
On the subject of TV, I've seen a lot of it here lately, and some of it isn't bad. The World Series of Pop Culture is pretty good. Also, some weeks, I'm smarter than a fifth grader, some weeks I'm not.
The one thing I haven't done yet, that I thought I'd do more than anything, though, is read. Not a single book. Lots of magazines, though. The thing is, I can't read comfortably. I'd have to hold the book straight out in front of me.
Oh well, once I get this collar off and can move my head around, I'll start chewing up some literature.
I've also taken to having my coffee on Sunday morning while I sit out back doing the crossword. It's the most peaceful, calm part of my whole week.
Anyway, folks I better get moving along. I'm showered and shaved and haven't sat in the pc chair for this long since I got home. I feel a 12 hour nap coming on.
Namaste', friends.

Must be the surgeon. I had almost exactly the same surgery done 10 years ago, cervical vertebrae from C-4 to C-7 are plated, screwed, and fused. I never did use a collar or electrical stimulation. 2 hours after getting out of Recovery, I got up with a bit of assistance, and walked to the bathroom by myself. 10 days after surgery I went back to work (I was going stir-crazy). Yeah, it hurt, but I never took anything stronger than Ibuprofen after leaving the hospital (the day after surgery). Personally, I think my surgeon's approach was better (and he bragged about his patient's short recovery times in comparison to other surgeons): get up, get moving, fuck the collar shit, the neck isn't going anywhere, it's screwed together with titanium.

Wow. I didn't know people could be shimmed. I thought it was exclusive to door jams and kitchen cabinets. That's really rather cool.
I'm glad your neck is pain-free and hope you continue to recover as easily as you can, qb.

Re: Member News Discussion
Thanks, everyone, for the encouragement.
Mr. Dingfod, I agree. I think this is taking too long. I'm going stir crazy. I guess it's taking longer because I don't have any screws or plates, just bone. Regardless, I'm following the doc's instructions to the letter. If I didn't, and something went wrong, I'd be up Sh*t Creek, you know?
Plus, I have had surgery on my shoulder and my knee in the past, and didn't follow the recovery, came back too quick, and now neither one works right. So, I'd rather err to the side of caution.
I know one thing is for sure...my body cannot handle drugs. I got home from the hospital and for a week I was hot and cold and dizzy and sleepy and amped up. shew! Anesthesia, morphine, percocet. my thermostat was wrecked for a week trying to get that stuff out of my system.
As far as my dog, ole' Rexenstein is doing just fine. I actually rough housed with him a little the other day. I have a ton of nieces and nephews, plenty of visitors, who keep him happy. Everyone, it seems, brings him something when they visit. He has at least 4 rawhides in the living room right now.
Spiritually, though, I'm a mess. LOL. I have no balance right now between intellectual, emotional and spiritual self, and that's because my physical self is so out of whack. I'm not too worried about it, though. I'll get settled eventually.
